ooc: Route away Larry. This is your life story, not mine! I just make the pop-tarts, remember? And they're damn good pop-tarts too!

Murdock

~She whispered something into Ruinem's ear, and the stallion set off at a cautious canter. The elf-bred horse's hooves barely made a sound against the soft terrain. Mia mechanically guided the beast, apparently in deep thought. She didn't say a word. Only once did you catch a glimpse of her mournful face, her silver eyes like broken blades, and if you'd known the tongue of elves you might have understood why she was named as she was... Mithia. The grey abyss.~

~The two of you rode in utter silence until the red crack of dawn. You'd traveled now many miles, but when Mia halted Ruinem you could still see a black pillar of smoke from behind. The elf quietly slid off Ruinem's back then looked solemnly to the horizon. The morning was warm, but she shuddered. Her countenance went slowly, she was defiantly trying to dissuade grief. But all her strength and will could not stop the onslaught of tears. She crumpled, sitting on the ground, leaning her back against the now protective Ruinem's front legs. She bent her knees and rested her head on them, crossing her arms to hold them closer. Then she wept.~

'Hmmm' the paladin considered their course deeply 'I think it would be best that we depart moderately soon, maybe early morning not tomorrow, but the day after and head for our first major stop on the way round Lake Eharra.'
'I suggest we go straight to Nearsessi, then we can decide whether to keep to the path or skirt closer to the edges of the lake itself.'

OOC>>>I apologize for this post's poem to be so...rough...but I am at work still, and was in a hurry. At least it rhymes! I don't have time to do a better one. Please like it!

Murdock/Erran

Murdock felt awful. He tried to keep his head turned to the side, as to not cause her uncomfort at a stranger staring at her crying. He paced back and forth a bit, grumbled to himself, and thought much on Cal's last words to him and the friendly smile that he bore. Damn those orcs! They had killed a good man! 'It should have been me! Damnit, why didn't they take a foolish bastard like myself instead of a good elf?!' He wondered, inwardly. Murdock was miserable. He never should have gotten mixed up with a Macaderian Princess. None of this would be happening to him, now. It all started with the theft of a damn coin. In fact, he still had that same coin! She never did ask for it back. He rummaged through his pockets until he found it. He held it up to the growing sunlight. It twinkled a happiness that was opposite the way he felt for it. He wound his arm up and was just ready to throw it into the sky when he stopped. he could not do it. Putting it back in his pocket, he moped along, not knowing what to do. Mia's tears were now fading and her sobs where quieter. He really felt bad for her. She was now alone in this hellacious world, far from home and had no family or friends to comfort her.
Murdock had no way of knowing how to help. What words could a human thief say to a lamenting elf? Then he remembered something. Elves loved music and poetry. His own mother had been a bard, and had taught him the basics. Sitting down and putting his mind to it, he tried to make a few words rhyme.

A man alone on a shadey path he strode,
running from a life of adventure to return to his home,
Came across one morning an elven hero and his sister joining,
The two of them to the city of Rhykatam they were going.

Now three were upon horseback, and rode like the wind,
It seemed like adventure for the human had no end,

That morning he awoke much to his dismay,
Cal, the Elven hero, eternally asleep he now lay.
His life was spent to protect us all
To the hideous Orcs, his courage would not fall.

His sister Mia, what a courageous sight,
She led the human thief away through the night.
On they rode far, far away
Until they could see the first whispers of day.

Now troubled are the hearts of those two.
They wanted to do more, but knew not what else to do.
Cal's memory and his heroic deeds will not be forgotten.
How he stood his ground when the Orc's plan went rotten.

Now Mia and Erran, travelling alone but together
Will sing praises of Cal from this time forth and forever.
If she will accept him, Erran to be her protector,
He promises to watch over her and find her a shelter.

Murdock finished his song. His eyes were closed, and when he opened them, he looked to see if Mia had liked it. It was rough and untidy...but it was from the heart, if that were possible for a thief.

I could do better with time...

~Eben nodded his head slowly.~ "Very well then, my friend. Nearsessi would be a good place in any case to increase ones knowledge. When shall we depart?"

Murdock
(ooc: ROCK ON LARRY! At least your songs make sense!!!)

~She sniffed, pulling her tear-streaked face upward from a prison of protecting limbs. The flow of tears was halted if but for a moment. Her voice was shaky and quiet when it emerged.~ "This is a nightmare." ~Her bloodshot grey eyes looked at you painfully.~ "A terrible dream I-" ~She looked up to see the forboding cloud of smoke.~ "I am fooling myself. Cal is dead. I am alive. I am awake." ~She shook her head, her face turning back to sorrow. Her voice cracked as she spoke.~ "It's not fair."

OOC>>>I am glad you liked it! I was worried.

Murdock

"My lady, do not rob your brother of the great victory he has won in your behalf. You live, and he bought that for you. And me. We did not ask for it, but such is the way of a valiant man. He has given you the gift of life to do something with, and you would dishonor his sacrifice to not accept it, but to sorrow and lament.
Please beleive me when I say that your brother would much rather rest peacefully, knowing that you yet exist.
Take that message as you will. But for me, I shall honor his name daily and live on...he has changed me in a way that no other has. He has done something for me that only my mother has ever done before.
Cal will always remain my friend.
Come now...how may I be of assistance to you? To honor his deed, I am now in your service, be as it may, I am only a foolish thief. Yet, I will serve you in your brother's name. What do you wish of me"?

~She sniffed, nodding her head slowly.~ "There is wisdom in your words. But this is not the only thing that makes me weep."

~She sighed, staring off.~ "I am in an unknown place on a plane I barely know by name. I have nothing to defend myself with or take sanctuary to. No weapons, no friends, no gold, no persuasion. I have nothing of any value but my heart and my horse, one of which is shattered besides. The only thing that cold comfort me is lost forever, and gone valiant, but hollow. My only company is a stranger who introduced himself to my clan as a bad man. My home is hidden and far away, but I hesitate regardless for I fear to cause it harm in the manner my brother was killed. Do I not have reason to lament?" ~She shook her head.~ "Even nay, I see it as quite a burden for but one heart to bear."

"You have a point. You burdons are your's to bear alone, as I can offer no help, since I know not your side of the world. But come! You must have some idea of where you are to go now. What does your feelings say that you should do? Do you need my assistance, or is this where we are to part ways? I leave it to you to decide."

~She swiftly reached out and grabbed your wrist, looking at you with wide frightened eyes.~ "Please don't go!" ~Her gaze averted shamefully to the side as she tried to regain her composure.~ "I..." ~She mustered some courage to look back to you.~ "I..." ~She looked tearily into your eyes.~ "My road is long enough without the ache of loneliness." ~She repeated her previous exclamation with a calmer tone.~ "Please, Erran. Don't... Don't go."

ooc: I'm making a very conscious effort to keep Mia different from Zahara. I've got a terrible habit of making my characters too alike though. Am I doing okay so far Larry?

OOC>>>I think we all suffer from that tendancy, Spree. I am trying to be a dirty bastard, but finding that to be difficult! I can't get away from being nice to nice people. Oh well...At least the story is fun!

Murdock

"I won't leave you alone if you do not desire it. But I do not know if you would consider me good company, either. I have my ways of life, and I would rather not expose them to you, and least of all put you in danger.
But, neither can I turn my back on you. Not after what you and your brother have done for me. Come, let us leave this place. It is still early morning, and we have a long path ahead."

The two set out again, Mia riding the horse and Murdock walking along-side, as to not weary the horse too soon, incase they needed a fast getaway like the previous night. Thier destination wsa still the city of Rhykatam, Murdock supposed, as they had no better plan at the moment. Both were tired and hungry, and were looking forward to seeing a little civilization.

"So, Mia...what do you know of the city that we are making for? Had Cal mentioned anything about it? I should like to know...as I am very uncomfortable not knowing."
