I get annoyed by all of the above, but I hate anything that casts Death Cloud more. The only sure protection is to cast a high lev Purify Air every round, which I rarely can do until AP. My fave is golems, all stripes. Mites are the cutest, reminds me of one of our cats, the insect version.

Of course, I can tell you the absolutely, positively, most annoying monsters in the game: FRIENDS!

That's right, friends. The like twenty million Umpani running to fight those three crimson poppies outside the base camp. Or the hordes of Trynnie guards ganging up on a few spiders. Or the T'rang beating on a few Apuses.

This drives me up the wall more than anything, even millipedes. How many times have I longed for a way to turn off these "allies" so we can get in there and kill the monsters ten times faster? And then there's all that marching around. It's worst in Trynton, on those narrow walkways. But everywhere you go that's inhabited, you're sure to have annoying, frustrating moments thanks to the "help" of your "friends".

After awhile, it's a pleasure to be out in the wilderness, with open space and just monsters to kill!

Hah! Ya didn't know the Trynnie were judo masters, huh?

P.S. Never happened to me, but there were a number of times we ended up moving backwards, thanks to the patrols!

I have to agree. Just had a few big battles in Trynton. The allies were the worst distraction. I re-loaded to speed it up.

You're right . Umpani groups can make a combat VERY long. But on the other side I once met some Greater Seekers with a group of Stalker Seeker there. Those Umpani ran to fight them and I hide myself behind a corner and during the combat I drank some cups of tea. I never earned so much money and items without doing anything.
The privates were all poisoned ond paralyzed so they died later, the seekers managed to kill a sergeant and those lieutenants fired theis blunderbusses into the crowd sometimes hitting their own comrades.
O.K. the combat lasts more than 40 minutes but I had real fun watching them.

I guess you have to have patience sometimes in this game. Sometimes the battles are quick, other times you just have to sit back and enjoy another beer, or whatever. I heard one person say never cast slow on millipedes! Amen. They already get about 6 shots each. It slows it up even more. Other times the battle is over before you can get your first protections up. Quite a range.

This game is still intriguing to me. When you are starting out, everything is a mystery (what stats to push, best weapons, what can those criters do to hurt us, etc.), but later on when you push the limits...it's also a mystery! As far as what you can do to survive goes, that is. The only drawback is that after so many battles, you actually get strong enough to handle almost anything. But that is the point, isn't it? To develop 'til when you are nearly a Cosmic Lord?

There is some philosophy here, in that the challenge is the becoming, the growth, the journey, as much as the end point. Not very metaphysical in real terms, as far as the meaning of life goes and how it can relate to going to work on Mondays. Um, maybe there is something there. I vaguely remember a Zen saying it that is not the destination as much as the experience getting there that is the main reward...

I feel an urge to bump this...gods forgive me!

Anyways.

A group of Trynnies once pushed my party off the tree, and needless to say they all died and I felt an urge to use my Felpurr to slaughter them all.

Plants are annoying at low levels and can prove to be a nuisance even at higher levels. Dunno about Juggernauts, as in my recent party I simply avoided them until I can kickass. And that I did! They are somewhat annoying to kill, though, and I don't like those whimpering sounds they make when hit.

Ant Queens are surprisingly difficult to handle.

By the way, you know Anna in the marina? Well, she once scored a critical kill on a Higardi raider when helping me fight them, in one single hit, with her bare fists!
I was incredibly impressed. And scared.

My most hated monster, hmmm... that's a hard one (sarcasm)

ROCK CRABS!!!

"Just die already you... *?#%@* $^&#* #?%*......"

I've considered running 6 mages all pumped in fire magic just to get my revenge on them for all the hours I've spent nicking them to death with the tips if my swords for rounds on end. Grrrrr....

I don't mind adamantium slimes, coz I hardly ever see them and they only seem to come in singles and pairs, not sevens!!!

Other beasties on my 'most annoying monsters' list would be:

Vampire bats - "Okay I've killed over 300 of you now... Why haven't you dropped any friggin wings? You... %#?*&~ stingy *%$!?*@#....

The ever-helpful Umpani - "It's only two greater seekers... I got it, don't worry yourselves about it.... I SAID DON'T WORRY!!!" (Umpani Leutenant accidentally shoots me in the back). "Thanks guys."

Scorchers (all 101 types) - later in the game they're everywhere and they're boring to fight (at least for me).

.... Ahhhhh.... feels good to rant.

I hate friends; they always get in the way, as well as wasting time, so I have to sit and wait for them to get the kill.
I never had a problem with juggernaughts, but I hate plants; rank weeds and caustic vines are terrible. I wouldn't mind if they just did extra damage, but incapacitating my characters makes combats longer and boring. Getting poisoned by other plants is a pain; I hate bitterwings even more.
Oh yes, Psi sharks are nasty.
What annoys me are opponents who get charge, and then when I move into combat run away so that only one of them is in reach, so that I have to do every one individually. Similarly for ranged opponents, they line up, and I wish there was some option whereby I could line my party up similarly to fight close combat with them all, rather than start at an end and have to keep on walking. I know turn based combat isn't realistic, but it would be nice to have a system so that when I got close enough my fighters (or even all my characters) counted as in melee, jumping around and generally following up rather than standing in the same spot.
