Did anyone ever kill the ogre mage and his 'pets' then go to Scar and have Scar seem not to recognize that the [roblem is gone? This happened to me, and only on my way through Bg city in my second game did I get the quest...but I sold the ruby ring by mistake (ooops).

Thanks everyone. I'll try not to lose too much sleep over this Schlumpsha guy. However, I wonder what would happen if someone tried polymorghing him? Maybe he would turn back into his former self, as a human/mage. Eeehhh... probably not. But it sure would have been a neat qwuirk if the developers had put it in the game.

I don't think it waould have any effect at all, since Mustard Jellies are 100% Magic Resistant. Still, it's neat that the designers made even the inconsequential, MINORminor characters so memorable.

Another cool twist that was put in the game had to do with a minor character. If you say the right things to that fat thing in the Cloakwood in that big dirt mound (what's her name? the one with the body of Chelak in her lair) she tells you that she was made into a hideous creature by an elven mage named Jon Irenicus. It makes me wonder how far in advance the makers of the BG series had the whole plot line laid out. Pretty cool, if you ask me...

Oh, I'm sure they had the basics lined out waaaaaay in advance. Once they get going, designers (like me) just don't know when to shut up.

P.S. She doesn't say "Elven mage, Jon Irenicus," she says, "Arch-mage, Jon Icarus." It was the beta-version of his name, before they decided to make it sound less Greek.

Acutally if you speak to Lord Foreshadow at the Naskel Carnival you can see that they already planned to make Neverwinter Nights.

Actually, I beleive that there are a series of books about the whole Forgotten Realms, and they were published well before the idea to make this game ever came forth. But I'm not positive on this.

My brother in-law who didn't particularly like playing Baldur's Gate (poor graphics), said that he could remember years ago reading a really good book that was entirely about Drizzt Do'Urden. I didn't ask him what the title was however. So anyways, most of these characters and plots were thought out well in advance.

Yeah, there are a bunch of Forgotten Realms books. The Drizzt Do'Urden ones are called the Dark Elf trilogies, by R.A. Salvatore, adn the Crystal Shard trilogy (I think its' a trilogy).
The first Dark Elf triogy is about Drizzts' child hood, and growing up, and the second one focuses more on the Ten Towns time/area (I think).

MY GOD, YOu PEOPLE DONT KNOW???
forgotten realms is a Huge D&D campain setting, there are actually like 10 REALLY good books about drizzt. starting with one called homeland. drizzt was created by R.A. Salvatore. forgotten realms has been around for, like 15 years. if you want to gain a GREAT DEAL of understanding about the game series then get the D&D forgotten realms worldbook by wizards of the coast. it tells you lots of things. in the game drizzt was gouing to save his halfling freind, regis, from the assasin entriri. heck, even my sig is a quote from drizzt

get the forgotten realms worldbook
read it
understand
