I definately recall trying to hit one of them, getting an "immune to damage" message then running off to the shop. It's practically impossible not to have arbane's sword by then... (but then, I've only recently discovered just how good that weapon is). I must have been going through an odd phase

I totally DETEST Edwin. Can't stand him.
I both agree and disagree with you.

People often complain about Aerie, Jaheira and Nalia being whiny. But they must all step down for Edwin's constant peevedness.

Aerie and to some degree Nalia, at least has a reason to whine. Jaheira might be more questionable, but Edwin. Even when everything proceeds to his satisfaction he whines like a spoiled child who didn't get the exact presents he wanted for christmas. He combines selfishness with immaturity with no redeeming features. Too bad the gods had gifted him with such talent.

A great royal whiny spoiled childish boring unhumorous, but deeply talented a**hole.

And that's what makes him such a funny addition to the party. He is the guy that everyone hates, but they still need his skills nevertheless.

I really can't resist the urge to outfit him in silver and green robes (people who have read the Harry Potter series should know the significance of this).

I can live with Aerie or Nalia or even Anomen being a bit whiney, it's understandable. But Edwin, EGADS spending ten minutes with him just grated my nerves to no end. I killed him and dumped his body from the party. I HATED him in BG1 as well. I find nothing that he says or does funny. I just... can't... stand... him.

I guess we all have a character we just can't stand. Edwin is mine.

If I could stomach him long enough, I would like to get him Girlified, go to Brynnlaw, lock his sorry sad ass in the asylum, and then drop the ward stone some place where nobody could find it.

A long long long time, locked away in a nuthouse, as a woman. Aaaaaah how satisfying!

As far as I can recall, Adamantine Golems require +3 weapons (or better) to hit, and even then, they've got 90% resistance to all forms of Physical damage, and are immune to most Elemental damage. So, your almighty Tank can swing the Flail for a whopping 2 damage on each hit. How fun.....

I remember a dwarven barbarian chucking the dwarven thrower at one and hitting for 30+ damage. That REALLY shortened the battle.

What weapon immunity? The Dwarven Thrower is a +3 enchanted weapon, so it has no problems hitting Iron/Adamantium Golems, which brings me to the next point. Methinks you encountered an Iron Golem which looks the same, but does not have the 90% Physical Damage Resistance that Adamantium Golems have.

actually I made pretty short work of the Adamantium Golem in Nalia's keep today with just a thief, the Hammer of Giant Kin that the golem is guarding, the hide ability and a haste spell.
I got everyone else out of the way. I hasted the thief, hid him, ran to the golem and whacked it. Then I ran away, hid and did it again.

The trick here was hide and haste. being hidden means getting in the hit before he sees you. being hasted means getting away before he returns the favour.

...and my little halfling thief isn't even proficient in hammers (although he is a fighter/thief, before you tell me thieves can't use hammers)

Take heed that the Big Silver Golem in De'Arnise Keep is not always an Adamantium Golem. Unless you have a high-level party, it will usually be an Iron Golem. Of course... in either cases, Lilarcor +3 will take care of both of them without the need for healing, potions or spells. Just plenty of poking... just plenty of poking... ...
