I jumped into the Mae-Var quest early in a new game I'm playing. Basically, the whole ball got rolling because I wanted rid of Yoshi.

Now, Edwin has been kind enough to debase himself and give me a task: kill a cowled wizard. Well, the dude is guarded by 2 golems and I only gots +1 hammer and mace.

1. Where can I get +2 blunt quick.
2. If I hop over and do D'Arnise Keep (gaining one heck of a blunt weapon), will I lose this sub-quest for passage of time???

Thx for advice.

I dont think the quest has any specific time limit. also, gorch, the merchant in Maevars guild, sells a +2 mace. Bernard in the copper coronet sells a +2 morning star and a +2 mace that gives 18/00 strength, that is after you free hendak and he kills Lehtinan. that should cover youre needs .

1. Flail of Ages is always worth getting. It involves starting a whole new quest, though. A regular +2 Flail can be bought from Ribald. If you want something more, or can't afford to buy one, rather get the Wyvern's Tail +2. All you need to do is to go to the Temple sewers, and kill a Dwarf and his company. There's alot of other options too, especially if you have the money. ;)

2. You can do de'Arnisse Keep now, though you can also always wait. If I were you, I'd finish Edwins Quest first, and then go help poor miss Nalia. ;)

Bernard's Mauler's Arm (Mace +2, 18 STR to wielder) is the best choice. Sure you'll have to dish out some coins, but the mace make a great complement for Aerie or Viconia.

I'd say, ditch Edwin and go help Nalia. She might be a bit snobby, but, at least she does not think you are monkeys.

I totally DETEST Edwin. Can't stand him.

People seem to have forgotten something here. ;) There is no need for the weapon to be of the blunt variety. What you face are Stone Golems, which merely needs any weapon that is +2 enchanted or higher. As such, even Arrows +2 will suffice or Melf's Minute Meteors, Chaos Blade +2, Lilarcor +3, etc... ...

As far as I know, there is no time limit to kill the Cowled Wizard.

Ummm.......
When I posted I slowed for just a bit and asked myself "might those have been something other than clay golems - Naaaaah."

Thanks for pointing out the obvious to which I was oblivious oh wizened master of the Amnish arts. ;)

I can't remember what golems they are exactly, but I'm sure they needed blunt things to hurt them.

Best for this purpose is the staff mace (from Adventurer's Mart), +2 one-handed, but uses Q-staff proficiences - great for non-fighter types.

Dundee Slaytern 01-27-2003 12:43 PM

Rest assured, they are Stone Golems.

To clarify something else. Clay Golems only require a +1 enchanted or better blunt weapon.

what's the weapon deal for adamantine golems? i got stuck with one in windspear hills with my solo fighter...wound up having to go all the way to the sewers to get the random-effects wand and start casting random spells until it got petrified (i think a stinking cloud has some weird affect on golems)
