Oh. I was deeply confused, I thought you were talking about a troll dude that you fight that you know before Firkraag. Well here's what I did with him: I launched a fireball into there and glyph of warding (the spell that looks like a trap that explodes if anything gets near) and then I charged in and attacked.

Well, I was working on this guy for about 2 hours with my solo ranger/cleric on insane.(Cleric is still only level 12/ranger is 13). With many glyphys of warding to take down the spirit trolls and a few mountain bears finally it was just me and Torgal. So I cast Holy Power and then harm.... and bam!! The first time I tried harm (after 45 mins of other tactics)he was reducded to 1 hit point. At that instant one of my glyphs of warding went off and it was over.

Boring Update:

Odin Magnus cleaned the floor with Improved Torgal on Insane Difficulty. Yay... huzzah... zzz... zzz... ...

Odin was level 14 when he started the fight. Using a Project Image, I managed to summon about 8 Sword Spiders and casted Resist Fear on everybody. I then bumrushed them all in, then casted Web twice followed by Greater Malison and Slow.

The rest was, as the saying goes, history.

What irks me is that fights that give me grief even when I am using a party of six, is practically a pushover for my solo Sorcerer... ...

Odin is currently level 16 and proceeding to acquire Valgar's body for the next stage of his power, the Ring of Acuity.

And with each item, his power grows. I got the Robe, the Amulet, the bracers, the Boots, the Ioun Stone, and the Belt. I am just left with acquiring the rings, the cloak, the sling, and the STAFF

Sigh, unfortunately, that is how it goes with a well played sorcerer. Add to that the fact that you are much higher level than you would be with a party, and you have one highly-powered-master-of-destruction(TM)

Most(all) fights are pathetically easy with a solo sorcerer. You want a challenge? Play a solo Avenger with these stats: 3,3,3,10,18,10. On insane difficulty ofcourse. Good luck to any who take up this challenge, it is fun, but extremely difficult.

So sad, yet so true...
Once you have Project Image, you can finish the game without losing a single HP, and without too much trouble.

Actually, i tend to believe that soloing a Sorcerer is the easiest game possible, once you know the right picks.
Soloing is, IMO, easier (and more boring) than a six-member-party game, because you can have one character with all the game's uber stuff.
Even for the toughest, smartest enemy can't really beat you if you have the Cloak, the Robe, the Staff, the Ring (yes, Gaxx), the Boots (never underestimate the Boots of Speed!!) and the Helm (yes, Vhailor's... You can never have enough clones, especially when cloning a uber character!).

I disagree.
It's tough, no doubt, but with the right use of Call Woodland Beings, Ironskins, Insect Plague, Fire Elementals, Web, Improved Invisibility and eventually, Nature's Beauty, it's very possible.

A solo, minimum-stats human Thief would be tougher, IMO.

Sorcerers cannot use Helms, Alson. Fighter/Mages can though. Nay, the best headgear for a Sorcerer in SoA in my opinion is the Pale Green Ioun Stone. Come ToB though... ...

Good catch, but why on earth would I want to wear that, when its' only benefit is to prevent critical hits? The Pale Green Ioun Stone does that as well, in addition to a Hp boost and THACO bonus.

Dundee, you are talking about the Bracers of AC 3? What is the use of them? Gauntlets of Dexterity + The Robe made my solo sorc's AC -2. More than enough, considering that I have never engaged in melee fight so far (only for fun - some random bandit encounters... helped my spiders a bit )

If I got it correctly, you all tend to do the De'Arnise Hold quest as early in the game as possible. Heh, my solo sorcs all went there just after they got that pretty Mordenkainen's Sword spell. I can not imagine a killed troll without that sword hanging in the air

My own scenario is to complete the Planar Sphere first (after the Slavers, the Circus, the Fallen Paladins, Murderer's quest and so on ) at lvl13, level there, get the ring and lots of XP, then and only then begin the out-of-city quests (Trademeet is the first). By that time, every single fight is a catwalk for my sorc So The Staff and the boots are easily acquirable. The rest is even not interesting

ADD]Why do you need the Sling?? Myself, I have no time (or enemies ) to throw stones...

Eh? Why on earth would you want the Gauntlets of Dexterity when your DEX can be 18 straight off already?

Assuming you allowed your DEX to be 14 and below

Base AC: 10
+GoD: 6
+RoV: 4
+RoP+3: 1
+RoG: -1
+CotS: -2

And this sacrifices a lot of Mage equipment.

With a base DEX of 18,

Base AC: 6
+BoDAC3: -1
+CoP+2: -3
+RoV: -5

I managed to beat the alternative setup without even breaking a sweat, and still left my ring slots free for the Ring of Acuity and the Ring of Wizardry.

ADD] Oh, the Sling of Everand? Iron/Adamantium Golems come to mind( among other trapped enemies).
