XP should be fine on his system. XP only has problems on slower tech, and though a 1.1GHZ Celery isn't the fastest it should handle XP fine.

Stormy, I would really advise you to get Norton's Anti-Virus because it can do wonders for a computer. If you have a defragmentation program on your computer, be sure to use it. In case you don't know, defragmentation is a program that takes loose bits of data and information that results from deleting files or such to storing files, and it puts them back in the right place. At 69%, it's looking bad, so you may want to use it.

Okay, first thing you need to do.

Go to Start-->Control Panel-->System and select the Advanced tab.

Select the Start up and Recovery settings and uncheck the box Automatically restart.

This will let you see which error it's coughing up. Right down everything pertaining to the error. It's probably a stop code of some sort, with a very long number with an "X" in it. Run that error code through a decent search engine or through the MS Knowledge Base and it should tell you exactly what the problem is.
sorry i can't do it i just can't find the logs anywhere i remember it started out saying it was the video card, but when we replaced it, it would run a couple times, then quit loading, then started crashing system, it said something like recorvered from a serious error, anda logs has been made in some kinda mini dump

Hmmmm..... curiouser and curiouser...

A couple of things:

1. You said your HD is 69% full, but not how big it is. Do you have enough free space?

2. You can free up some free space by tweaking IE settings. One of the standard settings, browser cache in IE, decides how much hard drive space to reserve for your browser's cache -- copies of things you've looked at. The default is 10%, which is astronomical. I get by quite happily at 1-2%, which makes about 100MB on this machine. Tweak it down, and then clear your history in IE. You may be amazed at how much space comes back.

3. Is LotR designed for XP? You can check the Tech Tips thread on the W&W forum for suggestions on making W&W work under XP. Some of those tips may apply to you, especially the "win 98 compatibility" one. 'Course, they may not apply until you can finally load it...

Let us know...
