To begin with, I wasn't worried about the final showdown with him. I'd completed the game a couple times before and thought Sarevok would be easy enough. This time, I thought "I'll swallow a potion of cloud giant strength, backstab Sarevok, and pray for a critical hit". I did something like 130 damage, but even that didn't kill him. Does anyone know how many hit points this guy has? And, more importantly, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could kill him if I can't do it by backstabbing?

Well if you have the boots of speed maybe back stab and make a run for it. Maybe two would be enough.

And to think, I never considered backstabbing.
I took him out by having Kevin creep in slowly, draw his attention and while he is chasing Kevin have every other character hit him with magic missle, arrows and assorted wands. Worked for me. |

The tactics I use for the fight with Saverok follow the same pattern as other important battles. Namely, draw out the enemies one at a time, avoid melee combat with characters who are stronger than you by summoning monsters, prepare by taking potions and using defensive magic, then pound the enemy with arrows and wands.
Interestingly the first time I completed the game I was using the above tactics and as Saverok cut down the last of my skeletons, I paniced and pressed the wrong key. The game switched to the inventory screen(un-paused), so I switched back expecting to see my party cut to pieces, instead the Big Guy lay dead at Kivan's feet and I never got to find out who fired the last shot. There are of cause other ways to do the battle depending on your party. Good Luck.

I killed him after a long struggle and many dead party members. I eventually hit on the strategy of just dumping summoned monster after summoned monster on him and hitting him with every ranged weapon in my possesion. After a while he was going to have killed all my monsters so I piled in Ajantis, Kagain, and Shar Teel. He killed two of them before he went down (I think I had my PC firing wands, Coran shooting arrows, and Branwen using a sling the whole time). He is one tough b***ard as far as I am concerned.
