This is the first time I heard anything about this deal between US and Russia.

A few paragraphs:

There are rumors he escaped a massive airstrike and is hiding in the Russian Embassy as part of a deal between Washington and Moscow. Some whisper that he and his sons Qusai and Odai stole away to his hometown of Tikrit; others say they were wounded and one of the sons is dead.

Officials in Washington and at the Russian Foreign Ministry denied Saddam had taken refuge at the embassy. It's still unclear who fired on the convoy.

But the Moscow correspondent of Arab news channel al-Jazeera quoted a Russian source as saying a U.S.-Iraqi deal for a cease-fire was in the works, and that Saddam's safe exit from Baghdad had been assured in return for a halt to Iraqi resistance. The source, a ranking military intelligence officer, said CIA elements who were in Baghdad before the start of the war were trying to arrange the deal, al-Jazeera reported.

Some people are REALLY grasping for straws (and I don't mean you)

I guess anything is possible. Past that I don't buy one word. I have heard several rumors myself but this is the most absurd

I am thinking it is just one of the many, many, gossip rumours floating around about were Saddam is located or dead. There probably is nothing to it.

Although I don't feel to comfortable with Saddam going in to a building which is destroyed by a bomb shortly after. Just seems a little to perfect or easy.

Every five new articles posted on news sites are currently about Saddam's whereabouts, rumours varying from "he's dead for certain!", "he's hiding in Tikrit", "he's drinking margherita's with 2PAC and Elvis on a tropical island", "he's hiding in the Russian embassy" or the more realistic "no one knows".
Of course, taking into account that Saddam has a small army of clones, every single headline could actually be based on real observations.

Why is it that every time I picture Saddam I get a picture of Jango Fatt?

Question Mark

How neat! This will fit in perfectly with a conspiracy theory that I am currently researching.

All I need is a reason for the Russians to want to grant Hussein secret asylum. Money? A warm-water port? A larger share of the world oil production market?

Russia is still pissed about that whole Cold War thing, not to mention the fall of the USSR. With Saddam holed up with Bin Laden in Russia, they can plan a huge attack against the US!

You forgot the one "he is trapped in an underground tunnel, a tunnel from which there is probably no escape considering the damage that the 8000 lbs of bunker buster bombs caused"

Wouldn't that be ironic, he and his sons starving to death in the same kind of squallor that they made the Iraqi people live in.

As far as the doubles and the need for the U.S. to "produce his head on a stick" to prove he is dead; I am wondering why we haven't seen one strung up yet.

I can see Saddam sightings becoming as popular as Elvis sightings.

P.S. Your sig cracks me up!
