Five months, though...well, I'm no lawyer, but I think that that is a pretty light sentence for insider trading...not sure though....

Oh come on, how exactly is insider trading wrong, and on what grounds is it illegal?

Besides, a couple hundred grand is nothing in comparison to what these types trade over power lunches...

I think Martha's take on the insider trading deal amounted to less than $60K. I blame her broker more than her -- people not in the profession usually simply follow advice from a broker. I had hoped she would get no jail time. I'm no fan, but this shit's stupid. There are real criminals out there. Look at all the Enron people who are skating free.

Yah, Marsha got shafted compared to the Bush cronnies at Enron. I guess she should have bent over like all those others who got off did.

Martha's just a convenient target. There's plenty of execs out there who have done many worse things, and they go scot-free.

I think you hit the nail on the head there, Aerich...the general clamour for rich blood is getting steadily louder....

If you're right, then that's a promising trend!

Actually She was not convicted of insider trading. She was found guilty of telling lies to federal investigators.

This is what sucked, and those that suggested that course should REALLY be punished as well. Of course she chose to lie, and it is no one's fault but her own that she chose to do so.

Still, the main factor in her persecution and punishment was her celebrity.

If you're right, then that's a promising trend!
And just why is that a promising trend? Because they have more assets than others? Do the "depraved" have an automatic right to assets acquired by "the rich"? Does everyone know how the "rich" got their assets? Was it always through dirty underhanded ways? Why not try to find out how the "rich" did it and then do it yourselves?

I find the increasing feeding frenzy for rich blood more disturbing. It shows a further entrenchment of the Entitlement and Victim mentalities that are propagating through out the world. No one wants to work to survive/thrive/achieve anymore. The "government" or some other agency or charity is supposed to provide it (whatever "it" is...) for them or take it away from the "rich" and redistribute it to everyone else.

I don't mean to sound hostile Aaron. But I find this sentimentality insulting as I plan to be "rich" or at least very well off. And I am going to do it all on my own to support a lifestyle that I wish to enjoy and support my family and loved ones. I am not doing it for the rest of the world though. To them I say figure it out on your own or ask me how I did it. If the mood strikes me, I may just tell them. But don't demand that I support anyone just because I'm "rich".
