Well, I hear Martha Stewart has been found guilty of insider-trading, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy. When I *first* heard that Martha Stewart was going to court for conspiracy, I began to wonder: "Conspiracy to do what?"

- Paint the White-House pink?
- Persuade the President into wearing white pants after labor day?
- Redecorate the Pentagon?
- Cook up something that'd give the secretary of defence indigestion?

Her show was not taken off the air, by the way -- they're changing the name to "Martha Stewart Busted"

I heard that some of the jurors found her guilty because they, in part, wanted to send a message to people like Martha, about the consequences of lying to the Feds. If this is true, then the jury did not follow the directions of the judge and this may not be the end of the story.

Anyone remember a recent case about an ex-Representative from South Dakota named Bill Janklow? He ran a stop sign and killed a motorcycle rider at (I think) 70 mph. Well in January he was sentenced to 100 days in jail.

Link

So Stewart may get from 6 months to a few years for lying to the Feds.

Give me a friggin' break.

Well I guess it shows money won't buy you a Get Out Of Jail Free Card, not Martha's money, anyway.

With 2+ years in jail on the line I wouldn't call this a slap on the wrist. Especially since the MAXIMUM Martha made by selling early was $50,000 and her trial expenses plus lost business opportunity expenses are estimated in the $400 million range. She is suffering huge economic losses for doing what most any of us would do -- following the advice of economic investment experts.

Imagine it, you get a tip that you should sell -- do you then think "I should just take the loss, just in case it may be illegal."?????

I deal with this on a daily basis. I have a list of several hundred companies that I have to give notice to my firm regarding if I want to buy or sell their stock. However, I realize this is not open and obvious to everyone. The bucket of poop she stepped in is much to easy to step in. The real problem here are the investment experts trading on insider info to try to please their big-ticket clients. The investment professional shoulda kept his frikkin mouth shut.

OMFG! Did anyone see the Daily Show last night? They showed some of the funniest clips of the CNBC coverage of when the verdict was read.

Anyway, I could give a flip less about Martha Stewart lying about a stock deal and getting sent to a federal country club for it. Boo friggin hoo.

Though I do think it odd she got convicted for lying about insider trading but the actual insider trading charge was dropped. Somehow that doesn't add up. Well I did hear it on a self-admited 'fake' news show, so maybe thats not exactly accurate.

Wanda Sykes put it best, and I'm paraphrasing:
"I don't think what Martha Stewart did was wrong, because she did what all rich people do. They talk about money. We do the same thing on a smaller scale. Didn't you ever have a friend who worked at K-Mart?
'Girl, don't buy that today. It's going on sale Saturday... Yeah, a two-for-one, it's gonna split.'"
