Try fitting 4 dogs, 2 kids and a girlfriend into a prius. For the record, I think the "assholes" are not specificly the ones in SUV's. I think the assholes are the ones who sit in the left lanes doing 55 even though nearly every state has laws stating that slower traffic should stay right. I think the assholes are the ones who think that shaving, reading the news papers, eating lunch, bushing their teeth, putting on makeup or having an animated chat with the people in the back seat, is acceptable behaviour while operating a motor vehicle. I think the assholes are the ones who decide to cross 3 lanes of traffic to make their exit at the last minute while they have been poking along in the left lane for the last 20 miles. I think the assholes are the ones who drive any kind of vehicle no matter the make or model who don't think about the consequences that their actions have on those driving around them. I think the assholes are the ones who believe that SUV's are the problem. Just my |

Yo, Yorick, all the SUV's in the entire world, don't emit half the polution that the worlds people fart, belch, piss and defacate into the environment. If there are angry humans in the world of the future...SUV's are gonna be the least of their worrys mate. There just aren't that many of them per-capita. And these days their emmissions are about as clean as anything on the road oh 25 years ago. |

Khazadman, SUVs are not safer, as indicated, at length, in the article. And, they are especially unsafe for those unfortunate enough to be in the OTHER car.
Yorick, I don't think the law should disfavor SUVs per se. I know, however, that the law favors them (exmption from "gas guzzler" tax because they are a "truck"). I think the gas guzzler tax should simply apply to them, and then people would not buy so many -- the "gas tax" math would make a big difference. To those who support a person's right to choose -- that's fine. But, products should be treated equally -- an Escalade doesn't suffer the tax but a Towne Car does, that is also unfairly affecting choice. Oh, and I own an SUV. ![]() |

Boy, I'd really like the word @$$hole to be a word that is used less in this forum.
MagiK, you certainly got the maximum use of the word in your post. Have we reached critical mass yet? I also think some of the people who are jerks at times on the road are not jerks all the time. BTW, I agree these "jerks" drive all kinds of vehicles. Mark |

Fart = methane. Hmmmm.... you know, a factory would need to put out 100 tons per year of methane before it even has to get a permit. And, you dare compare all those permitted factories to people farting? Think about it for a second, just think. We can take piss and defacate in order if you like, but as you can guess they work out like fart. Besides we piss/defecate into a treatment works that at least tries to recycle every last bit that can be recycled. |

Everyone is going to die so what does it matter to kill people! People die all the time naturally so it doesn't matter if humans do it artificially as well! Sorry MagiK but I can't see how that defends your point in any way, even if its true which TL doesn't seem to think it is.

Just a further note. The largest source of methane the world over comes from deforestation. Trees left lying around to rot emit loads of methane. If you're going to cut down your forest, for the environment's sake, at least burn the wood.

I never understood the SUV phenomina. The only people who need SUV's are people in the back country who need the room and tend to go off the main road quite a bit. It is more affordable, both in terms of over all cost, maintenance, and fuel economy to buy a minivan. I believe the SUV outside of areas like Alaska, farms and rough areas is for status only. "Look at me I bought a $50K to $60K SUV so I paid twice as much." The real kicker for city slickers is those who choose a mini van are actually the smart ones as they get more value for there money in terms of maintenance, fuel economy, and even insurance. It also makes much sense that people who tend to flaunt status over others are also arseholes.

I have no problem with people buying SUV's. I have been looking at them myself but can't find a reason to buy them over a minivan. I just don't think they are a smart choice financially or environmentally. If I were in the Yukon, or Alaska and used alot of muddy back roads yah of course they may be worth it, but than I would have to compare them to a 4x4 pickup truck. I see people buy SUV's and they they can barly afford to feed themselves. Alot of people buy SUV's for status only. [ 01-19-2004, 04:26 PM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |
