Arnold Schwarzenegger is no longer running for Governor of California - which I think is a great shame. Can you imagine if he had continued his political career on to the Whitehouse?

The soundbites that he could have made as President would go down in history:
On meeting Queen Elisabeth: Hasta la Vista, Baby!
On US troops finally leaving Iraq: I'll be back!

and I'm sure that there would have been many more fun ones as this real quote from Arnie suggests: "I love Thanksgiving turkey...it's the only time in Los Angeles that you see natural breasts...

Yeah. I had almost the same thoughts of Ahnold saying that line "I'll be back" over and over again. IMO, not that I would've voted for him, he probably would have given Gray Davis a good run against him. Look at Jesse Ventura as a Governor. I took me by total surprise when I heard he became Gov of Minnesota. What a hoot!

I heard he's going to make an official annoucement in the near future, so it isnt "certain" he isnt going to run.

On a related note- Larry Flynt, ala Hutler magazine porn billionare, has indicated he might run for the California Governorship. I can only imagine the kind of fundraising parties he might throw. I think that would beat Jerry Springer as a Senator by a long shot.

Of course, he could not run for President as he was not born in America (he was born in Graz, Austria).

Does he have any credentials to be Governor or is it just that he's a popular actor?

Only that he's a wickedly smart guy, who became a self-made millionaire in his 20's through property deals, and has since been smart enough to use his talents to become so rich he would make Croesus turn green.

Seriously, though. I wouldn't vote for him, because I disagree with his politics, but I think many people are fooled into thinking that because his accent is clumsy-sounding, then he is a bit dumb. Nothing could be further from the truth. He is an extremely intelligent and passionate man, and I can certainly see him being a far better candidate than some mentionable ones both paties manage to churn out on a regular basis.

Excellent points Bardan. The only problem is that Springer, Arnold and Flynt are all way more known for other, less respectable (politically at least) careers. I mean no one takes Springer seriously due to his shows, at least I don't and I doubt my mind would change if he were to win the Nobel price. But judging by the interviews with Arnold I have seen he probably would make a good politician. He's got brains which is sadly lacking in politics.

Arnold can be elected to any office in this country except president and vice-president. And I doubt if he would get elected because of his late father served in the SS. Of course if Arny was a dem the press would be all for forgiving that. But the press here has that double standard of theirs.
