I wonder, if a poem like:
Quote:
Quote:
The words of both poems move me when I consider the granduer of the grand canyon. Only one is religious, from a religius book and with a direct reference to the staple of many religions, the Creator. They arent the same, but are similar enough to express a sentiment of deep wondering, awe, and appreciation of the grand canyon. When I get past the history and reach for the universal sentiment of the Psalm, I can see how fitting a verse it is. It could just as well be Quote:
But in the spirit of community, neither is appropriate for public display because alone, neither represents our diverse society filled with eyes of the beholder. Both, or even better all three, would be a great representation of the diverse society we really have. It isn't about censorship, maybe taking away the plaques wasnt the best outcome,(Thanks Pritche) but my opinion will stay that it is preferable to leaving them as the only expression, if only out of a sense of fairness to the multi-faceted reality of our society and our world.

Chewbacca - I didn't know for certain that Native Americans considered the Grand Canyon to be a sacred place (although I suspected as much). I would think that an exaltation of and/or to the Great Spirit would be a very appropriate commemoration and would pay proper homage to the native culture of the area.
