I'm already at level 5 light and heavy armor, level 3 light and medium weapons, and level 3 inspecting and lockpicking. I've added to a couple of other things (magic weapons 2, athletics 2, bargaining 2, a couple of magics, bow 2, and various abilities).
Anyone have an idea if bargaining really works, or if it's wasted? What about the different attributes, like honor? Do those do anything, or are they just used as prerequisites for other classes? I'm definitely enjoying it so far... if only I knew where I was going!

I dont know what honor does. I seem to think it increases the experience you get from killing things.
level 5 of any weapon is good to get to because then you get an extra spin around move when youre fighting. In general youre meant to spend the points on what is cheapest for your class and race and then later when your class changes spend on what is cheapest then. That would be most effecient, while youre a fighter get all the combat things up then when youre something else put more into magic you dont have to do it that way at all you can spend them however you want. Theres unlimited monsters so youll have as much experience as you need. you can be an adept and spend all your points on thief things... \ I just spent it on whatever came up, if i needed some trap removal to open a chest i put it there, if i needed some medium armor skill to put on the new chainmail i found i put it there. |

it never hurts to raise your parry skill and i'd also increase your shield skill too. some of the larger monsters such as the troll pack a wallop when they hit you and you'll be kicked back even if you're blocking with your shield. BUT! if your shield skill is high enough, you'll have a better chance of resisting the knockback.
i'd also raise athletics to 4. the backflip really comes in handy when you're fighting a troll or trying to get away from the center of a mob.

My personal preference: at the beginning of the game (when all the monsters are fairly easy) put EVERYTHING into intelligence. The benefit diminishes around 30, but up to that point it will drop the cost of advancing all the others by nearly half.
So, a little sacrifice up front yields a lot over the long haul. I also agree with the Athl. lvl 4 comment. It's a must have, in my opinion. [ 05-21-2005, 11:01 PM: Message edited by: Bob Billson ] |

Try and get Lvl 5 in whatever weapon class you choose. This is of course useful in executing advanced combat combo strikes. I've always been a sucker for good swords and maces.

I've found it is most fun, and I get the most unique and differentiated characters if I poor all the points possible into the skills that pertain to their class.
The only exception is traps - you miss too many great items ifyou have to leave the traps behind! |
