Well... I looked around the game folder a while ago, and some things seem easy to customize. There folders system is made the same way as Civ III mostly. Most of the rules are in a .txt file, and the game art is easily accessible in it's folder.

I also saw a scrrenshots folder, but it was empty.

Game rules in a .txt?
Well that just screams cheat all the way.

Hehe, good point, I guess you only are cheating yourself since it's singleplayer.
Guess I'll just have to call it a usefull game editing tool then.

1. how does everyone keep track of where all their emissaries, armies, etc all are? It's not like Civ where units flash when it's their turn to move. I'm sure some armies are wasting away somewhere while others die due to a lack of reinforcements.

2. How do you know who's married into your family? I've got quite a few heirs, but they're mainly royal princes - my actual heir (he's 52) has just assumed the throne and he doesn't have a wife yet. Now some of my younger princes have married outside the faction, how do I know who they got married to (I can't remember who the princesses were). The alliance screen doesn't tell you who's married to who...

3. How useful are these marriages anyway?

4. How come I can't travel from Norway (which has a port) to Mercia (which also has a port) but I can travel to Flanders (which has a port). Does this have something to do with dominating shipping lanes?

This is an awesome game isn't it.
You can keep track of all your troops coming and goings and status via the little buttons on the left of your screen.

Yes, medieval is a great game. I especially love playing english (due to billmen+ longbow combo) and turks ( late on the best units in game bar none) and byzantines (trading from constantinople.... wow)

I once got a ship in every sea so all my products were getting sold all over the world. It rocked, at one point i was getting over 100 000 per turn! It sounds crazy but its possible.

Also,
all the bugs mentioned (such as infinite general life) are all fixed in the expansion Viking Invasion. GET IT. It is soo much better. Not only do you get to play ancient britain and the vikings (the map is focused around just britain and scandinavia with much smaller counties) but it opens up the argonese and the sicilians etc to play, plus adds units (especially various skirmishers).

One extremely annoying thing about this game which is hard coded and can't be changed.. is the arrival year of the Mongols. Always the same and thus you can't help but prepare with the foreknowledge.

It's more fun if you don't know it Personally, I don't think the 'Horde' is that bad. As they managed to destroy pretty much all my enemies before arriving at my border

Hehe, in my game they we're whiped out by the Danes, the Kievians and the Egyptians, as a result I'm left to deal with the Danish superpower.
