Okay, the game is loaded and patched. I have yet to make my character because after reading several of the posts here I have a few questions that you may be able to help me with.

1. One of my major concerns is messing up quests. It seems that, after reading here and other places, quests can be disrupted because of prior actions. Is this a real concern OR is this blown out of proportion?

2. When I play RPGs I am one of those that likes multiclass characters because I like to match a magic user with thief skills or a sorceror with weapons expertise. Sure, the leveling up is slower, but I find the role playing more diverse and enriched. Am I correct in understanding that DD gives one the option of mixing and matching skills? Also, would it be better to play a straight class due to the possibility of spreading the point system to thin?

3. What have you found to be your favorite class and why?

4. Lastly, without spoilers (or as close as you can come), what advice would you give for staring out and what was the hardest part of the learning curve to master, in your opinion?

Thanks ahead of time!

1. don't worry. just do things as you like it.

2. nope, it's better to invest skill points in other areas. besides, you'll get more than enough skill points to invest.

3. male warrior, but I also let him have some other classes skill.

4. this game is easy. if you have played diablo you would have no problem with this game.

1. Agreed. Don't worry about it; there's no final score, and the only one to get worried about missing quests is you. Aside from the main-line quests, that is, and I don't remember if you can mess those up.

2. Apply skills where they're useful. Don't worry about whether they belong to one class or another; there's no class implication.

3. Warrior. Gotta love that sword-in-a-circle move. Most effective of the special moves I've tried.

4. Hardest part was patience... for taking on those tougher monsters in the early game. Once you get the appropriate weapon, they're a piece of cake after that.

The only difference between the classes is the health/mana ratio, and the special skill. You could take the a fighter and have him only use magic if you wanted, or make a mage that only learn fighting skills.

There is no best class. Fighter get lot of health and low mana, survivor are average in both, and mage get low health and lots of mana.

My personal favorite was Mage, because that was the easiest class for much of the game, and especially at the start. However, with mages, you don't need a lot of stuff, and I kinda missed that. So my second favorite was fighter. A fighter with a cold blade (has frost ability on it) is something to be feared. Some have said it makes the game too easy, but that didn't bother me

I did try the survivor once, but found it a kind of blah class.

As others have mentioned, outside the class specific special ability, all skills are available to all classes. So you can develop your character as you see fit. I generally took one level of the meteor spell at 2nd level for non mages; it was helpful in going through the first dungeon. Everyone used a bow down there, too. After that, my mage stuck with spells, while the fighter and survivor continued to use bows. They also learned the freeze spell, which is very handy in many situations.

The one thing I'd suggest is that you do all the in-town quests before heading to the outdoors, and you do the "arrange the escort" quest as soon as possible. After that, you can relax and explore as you please (there IS a time limit on the escort quest). The game is not very linear. If the area you're in seems too tough, go somewhere else and come back later.

I don't really believe there is a time limit on the escort quest. I explored the whole map before doing it, and I got no problems.

Hmmm. Over on the official boards, there were quite a few messages that made mention of a time limit for getting an escort for the healers. But that was awhile ago (I finished the game aways back), and perhaps the time limit was taken out in the patch?

Hmmmm, i left the escort quest for quite awhile with an unpatched game. Maybe not as long as some others since you soon run out of stuff to do in Aleroth.

On the subject of Aleroth, whats with the cat following me around? Do i smell fishy?

I have a very vague remembrance of ten days, maybe from the time you accept the escort quest, as the limit. While I never patched my game, I always did the escort job first, so have no first-hand experience either way.

As for the kitty, that's a frill. It follows you because you pet it. I stopped doing that, though, after it ended up with me in the dungeon one time. Seriously, I clicked the pyramid, and there he (she?) was down below with me. Guess kitty was just a bit too close. Luckily I managed to get it back out safely.

be careful with any cats in the game, once you accidetally kill one. Every cats in the game will become hostile to you. this goes the same with dog.
