And now, my review of Civ III for OS X (Macintosh's new OS)

Like I said earlier, I LOVE these games. So far, my favorite in the series is Civ II, but I've played them all, including Test of Time, and Alpha Centauri.

I knew that CIII was different than CII, but I didn't realize that they would keep the same names for units and Wonders, but CHANGE the units abilities, and the Wonders effects.
I had to restart, and read the manual to get an idea of what i was doing. I'm loving the game itself, and am planning a Strategy guide (I'm hoping this will be a group effort here on IW)

And therein lies the problem. I LOVE this game. And it stinks on the Mac.
I may be wrong. Is anyone else's game "stuttering" after a couple of hours? When the map is fully exposed, and all the animations going? My game was mini-freezing everywhere! The music stopped after about 30 minutes as well. So there I was, a silent, sputtering game before me.
Since Mac users are a minority here at IW, I checked some other forums. It seems to be a universal thing over here. I'm going to be looking for a patch, but in the meantime, I'm having to shut off teh animations and the advisors. -sigh-

This thread reminds me of readers wives, but that doesn't bring good images into mind so thats enough of that.

I recently got Civ 3 and have had Civ2 for a while civ 3 brought in some good aditions like queueable building (hooray!!) and the worker and settler. that through me off for a minute but i soon worked it out. i also like the tech trees and that the advisors tell you alot of infomation.

Yeah, it's great when you share a common interest. BTW, when the Frech are involved, she always loses, and when the Russians are, I do. That's a lot of the suspence, wondering who else is there.

I dont get it.

I like the games and all, well actually I have only played Civ 2, I have Civ 3 but my compurter cant run it that great, so I dont bother with it that much.

But what I dont get is why excaley is it the graetest stragety game ever. Its pretty much like any other stragety game to me. You make an army and try to out do your oponenet. I guess it doenst have to be like that really though. And I never quite understood how to do the space race...Or how to multi, I think it would kick arse on multi.

Armies isn't the only way to win though and that one of the great things, other options could be trade, culture (civ3only) or diplomacy.

Civ 3 games aren't all that good, the do get boring however if you build a thriving civilization then its a really good feeling [img]smile.gif[/img]

I have Civ1, alpha centauri and Civ3. Whilst the latter doesn't run paticuly fast on my machine, I've noticed that turning off the music helps the speed greatly.And all I can say is - GO FRENCH! The best for making the largest amount of cash - trust me.
Unfortuantely Civ 3 isn't multiplayer at the moment, but they are planning to release a multiplayer add on this fall. So wait till then to get the latest civ (well - that's my advise anyway).

I posted above that we play Civ I. Gal correctly reminds me that it is Civilization II: Multiplayer Gold. Grand Ranger, I have only once conquered the world. The Space Race is the easiest way to win, and you only have to defend yourself. Just get the Civilization Advance Space Travel, then build the Apollo Program. Get all of your big cities making Structurals, Components, and Modules. Only one module per kind, though. Add any more and it just slows your ship down. I have been beaten by the cursed Indians even though I launched before they did, because they had the fastest ship. And, oh yes, it rocks in Multiplayer! The scheming, conniving, backstabbing, double crossing! Gotta love it.

I installed the patch, and the game FLIES!!! I'm loving life, At this point, I am currently playing a Standard size game, at Warlord level (hey, I'm still learning the new stuff), using America for my self. I am dominating any single Civ, but they together are still overpowering me. I've destroyed two of my opponents, and conquered my continent; then I switched gears, made peace with the remaining four, made peace pacts and trade agreements. I always use Communism while at war, but have now switched back to Democracy. Now to concentrate on building a Super Empire. [img]graemlins/knightsmile.gif[/img] Then back up to Prince level! Civ I, II And III All Rocked. But, It Can Be The Longest Game Ever, Or The Shortest. (20 Mins In + Out) If You Go Warlike, Then It Will Take AGES. Weeks If You Don't Play Often. Play It Nice And Girly Making Peace With Everyone And You'll Be Done Within The Hour. My Bro Played It Peaceful And He Was Done Faily Quickly. But That's Just Boring!
