They've been called the greatest games of all time.
Consistently winning every available honor. The Father of all god-games... I've spent hours, days, weeks and months playing Civ I & II, Alpha Centauri, and Test of Time. I have never been disappointed. I just installed Civ III, and played the shortest game in my Civ-playing career. Less than 20 min, in-and-out. So, let this thread be known as the Civ Strategy thread !!! Share your thoughts, ideas, and strategies. :D I'll be back, For I mean to play for several hours this evening. many an hour of my life has been wasted away on civilization, me and my dad used to start a game, save it twice and take a save each to play, the aim was to see who had the highest score by 2000AD, because all the settings and maps were the same it was a fair game.

There are many strategies and tactics i have , but the only one i follow in every game (at least every game I hope to do well in) us STOP AND THINK EVERY TURN.
SOmetimes people get into a loop of having no military stuff to do (no flashing units) and forget about the economic side. Quickest way to lose the game. Once I managed to hit Aplha Centauri in 2 hours (CIV 1). Anybody beat that? |
I liked them for a while, but then I discovered (no pun intended)Colonization and it was much better. And then there is Master of Magic which is also great.

i didn't like it... it got boring after awhile.. I mean the portraits didn't look appealing and all that... it's one good strategy game, but I can't get to adapt to its culture :(

I have always loved Civ2 from the first day I installed it. I can spend many days on a single game, because I micromanage every city at every turn; I'm just wierd that way, I suppose.
My usual strategy is to try and get both the Library at Alexandria and Leonardo's Workshop--the auto-advances and the auto-upgrades can take you quite far, freeing you to develop your military and economy. I've not gotten any of the expansions; any recommendations? |
I guess we're wierdos but both Gal and have Civ 1 installed on our PC's at work, and sometimes we MP at lunch, rotten graphics and all. She's always the Romans and I'm the English. She starts on the British Isles (Premade world Europe) and me in Italy. She grabs France and I get Russia, and we fight over the rest. Great fun.

Weird? Hardly. I wish belle would begin to play some of these games I have sitting around the computer desk. She will sometimes say "we don't have anything in common" to which I reply .
Well! Wasn't that useless personal revelation #219! |
