You have never seen American Paper Money it can be folded 50,000 times Plus and
never crack or tear so to say there is no such thing as High quality Paper is 100% TOTALY WRONG!!!
I still Have the all original Morrowind Maps in frames and they are in a rack next to my desk and in fact there are thirty-two Game maps all mounted fraimed and filed next to my desk. Which ever game I'm playing That map is hung on the wall above my desk just to the right of my computer Monitor. That way it doesn't matter what the map is made of. They never get folded again after I open the box for the first time. I realize that most people are not carpenters and can't make a Frame and place their maps behind a clear sheet of plexi-glass as I have but, you can mount them on Poster board or stiff card board and then take care of your belongings and it won't make any difference what the map is printed on.
I have all of the Baldurs gate,I cewind Dale & NWN maps on cloth and The quality and detail sucks totally. I much prefer a high quality Photo style map printed on a high quality Glossy Photo paper any day over the low quality crapy cloth Maps that crack and get crinkled up and then the Ink crumbles off the cloth at
every fold they have in them. If you folding paper or cloth they both have their bad points but the clariety of glossy paper is 10 Times that of cloth so I prefer Paper everytime. My cloth maps are also framed under plexi-glass.

Yes, I meant for game map, there is no such thing as high quality paper. They don't want to invest in the map that's why they'te using paper in the first place. They wouldn't use something that would cut in their profit.

Of course if you don't fold them they stay good. But not everyone can hang maps all over the place...

Well my morrowind paper map is still in good condition and I used it plenty of times. It came prefolded too so I'm not sure what the problem is.

I did love my Ultima cloth maps but paper maps are sufficient for me.

My Morrowind map is in tatters... Seyda Neen is under the fridge, Balmora is in the cushions in the couch, and Ald Rhun is being used as a coaster by the computer...

I *need* a cloth map.

My Morrowind map is unuseable few days after buying the game. A cloth map would be usefull. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

I only hang up the one game map I'm using at the time.
All the rest set snuggly in the corner in a rack I built in two tears.
The Big Maps on the bottom & the little 12 X 16 or smaller in the
top rack and I used a lable maker to put the name of
each game on the edge of the maps to make it quicker
to find the one I want

As I said the cheepest way to protect your
maps is to Get some Poster board. The plastic
type you can find at stationary stores is really
good. Then get some Acid Free Craft Bond Multi-Purpose
Spray glue. Made by Elmers glue co is the best
and make sure it says ACID FREE on the can!
Then DON'T spray the glue on the Maps!!! Spray
the Glue on the Poster board only and let it Dry
for a few minutes. Its a good Idea to lay the Map
on the Poster board first and mark the Board.
Then mask the edges that will be showing with
house painters tape. Then spray about a 2 inch strip
all the way around the inside of the tape and then an "X"
from corner to corner and remove the tape and let glue dry.
Take your time and lay the map on the Poster board
and line up the edges. Get a friend to help then
carefully start at the top and work from the top
center down and out to the edges. Smooth the map
onto the poster board always from the center out an down.
then set it flat some where to dry for a day and your map
will last for years.
DON'T USE water Based White glue you'll ruin your maps they
will crinkle up and look like crap.

I hope this helps some of you that are in to crafts and
want to make some kick ass gaming maps!!

Thanks for the link and idea, Crimsonblade.
I might have a look into it, being a massive fan of cRPG maps (what with them scattered all around my flat on the walls....Might and Magic 1, My hankerchief Ultima 7 one, MM4: Clouds of Xeen, My paper Ultima 6, Ultima Underworld, Ascension, Icewind Dale...)

My version of Morrowind is just a 'Big Bytes' budget version though, so it didn't come with a map. As a consequence, I've come to rely more on my exploration and on Npcs to give me locations for some of the more remote parts in the game and when that fails, I might glance at the UHS for a hint.

The Baldurs Gate 2 cloth map I have though isn't too practical and didn't really get much use out of it (it doesn't like bluetack either and isn't very detailed) But I'm not really fussed if Oblivion has paper or cloth to be honest, since I'll have it on display on the wall and try not to crinkle it up too much.
