At the very start, there's a plate worth 500 (I can't remember the currency). Pick it up, and when the guard calls you on it, drop it. Because it's the start of the game you won't get arrested.

*glances around and raises hand* I uh, selectively looted so much - namely candles, magical items, swords, interesting bits of armour, dwarven pottery, gems, etc, etc, etc - my computer slowed down. To the point where I could barely move...

Okay well, I decided to transfer all of my stuff from one manor to another in Balmora and holy crap. I never realized how much stuff I had OR how much it weighed. I hope no one considered it cheating that I jacked my Strength way up so I could carry all my items in one load. (I plan on putting it back down when I'm done, of course.) After gathering up all the items in my house, I have a total of 9761 pounds of junk. Maybe I should consider selling some of it.

Why else would you have that stuff, if not to sell it?

Well. It's more of a competition thing, really. Me and a friend both got Morrowind at the same time, and always constantly argued about who was the better gamer at it and the such since we're always competing at video games. I finally convinced him to come take a look at my pad and all the loot I've stashed away. He took one look at it all and said "I need to find my own house."

Isn't it easier to have a bench press contest (since your a weightlifter) rather then piss away your time storing stuff in a video game, which really serves no purpose? Ah well, having once ran 15 kilometers in a circle after refusing to ask for directions to try and impress a friend, I can fully understand.

Well, see. I'm not really pissing away my time because I have a ton of time on my hands. And I said we compete in video games. I whip his ass in sports. He's a skinny guy, while I'm much larger. So it wouldn't be much of a contest.

Also, what comes with the platter at the begginning.

This is extremely cheesy, but it works. After you get the dagger, attack the gaurd inside the office. He won't arrest you. just attack him until he dies.

Then when you meet up with the knight, steal a candle so he doesn't attack you. He'll say, "How could you steal that?" and be on his way.

With that armor, that's a good 300 more gold pieces

But why? What's the point of stealing/killing at the first house in the game - you get so much stuff anyway - and gold. The first thing I'd do when I got out was to go and dive for pearls - but now I don't bother. Too much stuff.

Although, admittedly, stealing the platter and other silverware... well, I guess I'm a magpie. Oooh! It's shiny! *grab grab*. But murder's a bit much .

It depends entirely on the character. I've played a few scoundrels but, IMO, the game doesn't cater for the type that kills non-hostiles to get what they want. As you mentioned Calaethis, there's just too much stuff that you can get without all the bother. Non-violent thieves on the other hand...
