Hello all. I haven't been here since my IWD2 days. Finally got Morrowind GOTY and am having more fun just looking at the sky than most other games combined.
My first question is a minor spoiler so other newbies should read at their own risk:

I managed to swim to the island west of Seyda and cleared out the cave Aharunartus. I've found the slaves but no key. I've searched and re-searched and still no key. Also searched the pool of water. I DID pick the lock on the slave gate before I had completely cleared out the cave. Would that affect anything? Can I pick the slave's handcuffs? I actually just thought of that now, anybody try that? Also rested while inside the cave after I was done. Then got awakened by an assasin. As I understand it, this is related to the expansions. Is this going to happy alot? Is there a way I can stop it? It's happened twice in the cave, as I slept again after the first one caught me by surprise and did some serious damage.
Now some general questions:
Is the point of view a matter of personal preference or is one better than the other? I seem to do just as well fighting either way. Swimming is easier in the first person view but seeing the slaughterfish as they attack you is not. On the other hand, I find looting a body or crate almost impossible in the third person view. I've been constantly flipping back and forth which is getting a bit annoying. Just looking for other's experience and thoughts on this one.
Finally, I'm looking for some character advice. Here's my build:
Redguard Female
Majors: Armorer, H Armor, L Blade, Security, Speech
minors: Athletics, Enchant, L Armor, Marksman, Restoration.

After reading a few threads on the forum, I'm realizing I've made some mistakes in all this. I recall reading somewhere an advantage to taking both H and L Armor but I don't remember why (duh). It also appears the whole idea of enchanting my own items is pretty much defunct, since my intelligence is probably going to be on the low side(duh for real this time).I think I should have use for Speech, armorer, L blade, marksman, and restoration (maybe?)

Right now I've been down island for eight days. Is it worth it for me to start over?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can free enough slaves and you'll be unofficially invited to do a unofficial guild quest. You can sell the handcuffs for money.

If you want the attack to stop, go talk to a guard. follow what he says.

It's up to you, I prefer first person view as it makes me more like I'm inside the game.

Just choose whichever skill you feel that you'll use always. It's better to only choose one type of armour class. Anyway, Don't worry about it, during the game you'll eventually be able to train all the skill to max regardless where you put them.

No need, unless you want to go through all the same thing again and again.

I remember looking for that key! I used alchemy to make a detect key potion which helped me find it. It's on top of ( but not in ) a chest near the back of the caves. Near a campfire.

Hmm, I never knew about a guild quest after freeing the slaves, I always thought there was no reason to free them. Thatnks for the tip, Kakero.

But you can't pick the lock on the slave's bracers, AFAIK. (Kakero, can you confirm?)

I think it's pretty worthless to pick Armorer as a Major or Minor skill. The repair tools are too heavy to carry around, and the amount of money you save by not paying for repairs is not that significant (esp. considering the money you pay for the repair tools). As a Misc skill it starts low, so you can train it up to get 5x strength multipliers when you level, if that's your bag, baby Having both Light and Heavy isn't too big a deal. Certainly it's more efficient to concetrate on one, but my current character has both. I started out using DB armor and some glass, but eventually I want a fully enchanted set of Daedric, and when I finally get it I want my Heavy Armor to be high. (Of course, by that time, I'll have no problem training it up).

I have to disagree on several points.
Armorer is a good skill if you plan on going on long trips and fighting lots of monsters. You're weapons become significantly less effective as they become dammaged. There is a pretty large supply of free armorer equipment if you're in the fighersguild.
Also, Strength is the skill you have to worry about the least if you're trying to train up for 5x multipliers. IIRC Strength is the only stat that has five skills assocaited with it, so it is usually easy to train them up. If you want to look for a stat that is benificial to train up early, and where related skill points are valuable, then look at Endurance which only has 3 skills associated with it.
