Servii, what do you mean by "valid weapons"? Do you mean only with thief weapons? It seems natural not being able to backstab with 2 handed weapons or with weapons you get to use later with "use any weapons" ability in ToB, but I suppose you can with katanas, long sword, etc? I just havent tried with anything else than dagger and short sword, cause I though you were only allowed with these.

Wow, you can backstab with staff of the ram +6 (TOB)?
Damge: 1d6 + 12 crushing + 1d4 piercing.

Lol! Ive just realised how good katanas are for backstabbing! With Malakar (+2 katana) I backstabbed a drow warrior in the fighting arena in the underdark tavern, managing to inflict 122 hit points with a critical hit and x5 damage, defeating him with that single blow. This is fun damnit!

Now what will it be like with x7 damage multipier and wielding celestial fury?

I know the rules in BG1 state that "A Thief can Backstab with any melee weapon that a single-classed Thief can normally use." Weapons that require Use Any Item are NOT valid.

So, you CAN backstab with:
Dagger
Short Sword
Long Sword
Katana
Club
Staff

You CANNOT backstab with:
Bastard Sword
2-Handed Sword
Halberd (ouch!)
Mace
Warhammer
Flail / Morning Star
Axe

I'm not sure if pure-class Thieves can use Spears or the Scimtar group.

yes to scimitar, NO to spear...... i wish. any weapon that a normal plain everyday thief can use, can be used to backstabb. anything outside of said weapons will NOT work. its not quantum physics.......
