Who is better: Immoen or Nalia?

With the exp cap still on, mage wise, they are about the same, both got INT of 17 and BOTH can advance to the highest level of mage. However, since Imoen dual class later, that generally makes her a better thief. On the other hand, Nalia can carry more, STR 14 compare to Imoen's STR at 9. Overall, their stats is the same (87 each) and they have the same stats at DEX, CON, and INT. The downside with Imoen is that she won't join your party until later chapters. To me, overall, they are indifferent and I usually have both of them in my group.

She is not so high exp wise, but you will cap out eventually anyways, so don't let that be the deciding factor. Imoen will catch up quickly.

Nalia is ok, but she wasn't as good spell caster IMHO.

It depends...

If you are picking the character for personality, portrait, plot rants, etc; go with Imoen.

If you want the more capable character, Nalia is better. The fact that you get Nalia early, and can keep her the entire game means more xp, more spells in book, etc. As someone else mentioned, Nalia starts with the 2nd best ring in the game, which is also compatible with the various x of protection +y items.

Depends. I kept both Imoen and Nalia and completed the game. Having two high level mages was invaluable as the game progressed. I got rid of Ariel as I really didn't need a cleric as I had Jaheria in the group. Imoen does not gain experience while being held in Spell Hold. However, don't let this stop you from completing the side quests before rescuing her. You will earn plenty of experience as the game goes on and she will raise to at least 14th level before the final battle.
