But dragons ARE fun to play. And one of the nice things is that after a battle ( made shorter by breathing on foes ) the stamina goes right back up unlike mana. Started a party with Dragon Alc, Dragon Psi, Dragon Mag, Dragon Pri, Felpurr Bard and Lizard Fig. By the time Breath doesn't count for much, spell should be goo.

But the important thing is that everyone is leveling up fast, and it sure is fun!

Or even better get a few female dracon fighters.

1. dracons make really good fighters with high stamina and HP's.
2. Being dracons they can breathe
3. Being fighters they get a stamina regen bonus
4. Being female once they get to arnika there are two necklaces of stamina regen for the taking in the crypts. Bonus!

edit: oh and dracons DO make excellent lords. With a little practice they become very good tanks. Fang + diamond eyes + 25% dual weapon bonus is a fearsome combo, diamond eyes allmost allways hitting first and paralysing, fang comming second and doing double damage. Plus a very powerful set of priestly magic for healing and protection.

While I was running a party of all Dracon Valks, I ran into a group of Juggernauts and did some d-breath testing. This was to gather stats on determining exactly what affects dracon breath.
.
I have a save pre-battle, and saves post-battle at the different difficulties. During the testing, I tried to keep everyone at full stamina before Breathing to keep things consistent. Having six characters with Rest All is a Good Thing (TM). During each Breath, I took a screenshot showing the damage numbers over each Juggernaut. This was to see if position or distance has any effect on damage in a cone-based attack (screenshots were necessary as the combat log isn't detailed enough.)
.
Anyway, I have saves and a ton of screenshots. Unfortunately, I don't have the time nor patience to compile the data and do the analysis. Leave a reply if you're interested in the saves, screenshots, or both.
.
Oh yeah, I also had Pvt. Sparkle in the party with a potion of Dracon Breath. So I was able to test with a character with quite a bit less Max Stamina.
.
edit: just to confirm what rbeane1 said: dracon breath doesn't give skill improvements. However, damage does go up -- noticeable more than in early-game. How? Hopefully someone can find out.

it has something to do with available stamina. It uses about the same fraction of remaining stamina, so the more you have, the more damage it does. I don't know if level has much to do with it; your stamina goes up at levelling regardless of attribute allocation...you get more more, though, if you add Vit or Pie.

Each breath seems to take 20% of max stamina. I thought that the more stamina used, the more damage done, but haven't notice that to happen. If the amount of stamina used doesn't affect damage, then having high max stamina becomes a hindrance. You have to regain more stamina to be at full effectiveness. It would then make more sense to have Dracon Breath take away a fixed amount -- instead of percentage -- of stamina. But then again, my valks don't have that big of a max stamina difference (they all have 100 VIT). The greatest difference is between the one concentrating on STR and PIE and those with base amounts. Pvt. Sparkle has much lower stamina and she seems to do equivalent damage when using a potion of dracon breath, but more testing needs to be done to be sure there isn't some other factor involved.
