My core group is a Dracon Fighter, Human Valkyrie, Mook Gadgeteer, Rawulf Priest, Hobbit Bard and Gnome Alchemist. I'm in Trynton atm, my group is 9/10 and I have Vi and plan to pick up Madras. (My husband just added him to his party). However, since I have both a Valkyrie and a Gadgeteer I was toying with class changes for the two RPCs.

Has anyone changed Vi to a Lord, and if so, how did it work out? Since she starts with a mace, and I've already picked up two good ones it would be nice to have someone who could dual them without penalty should I find one secondary usable, and she already has divinity spells.

As to Madras -- I'm not sure there's any class it would work well to switch him to, but how much help is it to have 2 gadgeteers in the back rank? I'm already going through ammo at a horrendous clip, and carrying enough to keep everyone supplied is terribly encumbering.

Opinions? Suggestions?

If you already have a Gadgeteer, I'd say that Madras is fairly useless. When you hit the mines (which is not too far away from where you are in the game), get RFS-81. He's more entertaining, he can critical, and stays with you for the rest of the game.

I've not changed classes myself with the RPCs but I've heard of numerous people who change Vi to either a Fighter or a Priest and have had good results with it. I can't recall anyone mentioning a switch to a lord, however.

Personally, I'd stay with Vi as a Valkyrie for her polearm bonus and I'd give her a Dread Spear or Spiked Spear to maximize it. The dual-wielding doesn't seem to be that great, from what I've heard.

From my own experience:
I took Vi and RFS my first game and put my two Valks in the center (with some kicking spears that I don't recall the name of right now) along with RFS (who was wielding a Zatoichi Bo), put my bard and Ranger on my right flank (swords) and my gadgeteer on my left flank (sword) and the two bishops in the rear (staff of doom/vampire chain). This meant that in melee unless an opponent was to the exact right or exact left, I could hit with all eight characters and even when they were to the right/left, I could hit with at least 5 characters and unless the opponents surrounded me, my bishops were protected by being in the back. I never had any real trouble keeping my characters protected with this formation and set-up, though, unless I was facing lots of spellcasters or creatures with spell-like ability.

Yeah, taking a second gadgeteer won't really do much for you. RFS-81 is a much better choice (and the only NPC I pick up these days). There is only one place he won't go, and you'll need two slots in that location anyway.

As to changing Vi, if you want to dual maces, you're better off switching her to fighter for the berserk advantage. The only offhand mace I know of in the game is Diamond Eyes, a very good weapon. Even as a fighter, she can still cast her spells, though they will never improve from the time you change class.

On the other hand, if you're happy with her overall performance now, there's probably no need to switch at all.
