Okay, here's my dilemma. I'm a cavalier with -10 or -12 armor, great weapons etc. After the asylum tour (SPOILER) we're escorted down to the bottled (and dying) shadow thieves room. The I get whisked away to an island seperated from the others where Bhaal and I say hello with cold steel, again again and again. He takes damage but never dies. My ego can handle that-we need bad guys for sequels-but what's the secret?? Am I fighting myself?? He won't converse, and I can't find any clues.

= = = = = = = = This is when Irenicus takes away your soul . Imoen represents the bad part of you, the Slayer, that will remain when Irenicus has taken the divine part of you that is Bhaal. When you kill Bhaal, your divine soul goes into Irenicus. Imoen(this is not really her) remains, and now the divine part has no control over the Slayer. If Bhaal kills you, then Irenicus gets the soul, and you have nothing to chase him with. Game over. So kill him. Then go get Irenicus and get your soul back. Spoiler . . . . . . . . . . . You have to talk to the demon nearby on the steps and agree to his heafty terms, then enter the building and talk with Imoen. You can't defeat Bhaal until you talk to her, as mentioned above.

True, Jerhal, I didn't think anyone would see this big building that you have to give the Demon one of your STAT points to get into and then just wander around in the yard. But you're right, it can be done. Maybe that's why Irenicus thinks you might die.
