That site makes quite a few mistakes, and obviously doesn't check them.

For example, it says in the second 'dig' scene in Goodfellas that they're wearing short-sleeved shirts, they're wearing suits...Besides, you think it was never warm in NY in the winter?

They also made a mistake in Taxi Driver: They said De Niro was wearing Bald Cap...

He actually shaved his head...

I liked AotC and thought Phantom Menace was descent. The plot of the second trilogy is a very complex political web, and I think most viewers just don't have the patience to appreciate or understand it. Plotwise, the first three movies are pretty simple. Episode IV is an escape and an attack on a base. Empire is a long chase. Jedi is another jailbreak followed by an attack on a base. The most political depth you get out of them is in the 1st movie when Vader and Tarkin discuss the Emporer's disbanding of the Imperial Senate.

In the current movies, we are getting to see how one man uses industrial magnates with revolutionary tendancies to start a war and then how he plays two sides against each other to create the need for governmental change giving him emergency powers to act for the safety of the Republic. We will soon get to see him convert that Republic into a Parlimentary Monarchy.

The things to enjoy in these movies are very nuanced, and the actor playing Palpatine does a fine job.

Just try to overlook JarJar and the other Gungans, including BigBoss, as well as whichever version of Anakin annoys you most. We're older now and we may forget it, but Tauntans were pretty cheezy, as was the abominable snowman scene, as were all the Ewoks -- which can certainly annoy me as much as a gungan (except JarJar) anyday.

Oh, I still like all the films, but I simply wish (uselessly, probably) for the magic of the older films. I agree, I think most people just want to see colorful explosions, and the such, but I can most certainly enjoy the plot nuances in these new films. My biggest problem is with much of the dialogue, which doesn't share the same subtler nuances that the story does, and definitely makes the acting look worse. It's like a never-ending cycle! Make it stop!!

Yeah, you hit that one pretty squarely, Drew...

Oh, and as for mistakes in films, I watched Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail last night, and while I know that all the plot holes in that movie are on purpose, I wonder if they could still be called mistakes...wondeful mistakes, mind you, but mistakes nonetheless...

I agree with TL about the first two movies. I don't get why everybody dislikes them compared to the second trilogy. I for one thought AOTC the best film yet, clouded with mystery who Syfo Dias was and what Palpatine is really up to, what role Dooku has to play in all this, and frankly, FINALLY a scene in which the Jedi MAZTAH himself, Yoda, FIGHTS! Really, the political plot is MUCH greater, though I can imagine the flicks being less appealing because a 'rebellion' type goodguys speak more to the mind.

I think it best if I just don't give a real reply to this.

I'm sorry, but if you're suggesting that the dialogue in the original three was that much superior to the last two, then you haven't been paying attention - how many times does someone say they have a 'bad feeling about this'? Yes, there are definitely some cringey moments, especially from Obi-Wan (I actually felt a bit sorry for Ewan in Phantom Menace - he really had some shockers), but so too do Luke and Han in the originals.

Aye, the dialogue was indeed, much better. The "I have a bad feelin about this," has become a catch phrase, now. "Why?" Acting. The acting in the originals was lightyears better than these newer versions. Though, I do have to give props to Ewan MacGregor, Natalie Portman, and whoever plays the young(er) Palpatine. The younger Palpatine is played by the same guy who played the very aged Palpatine in Jedi.

There are some real groaners in all the movies. From "Laugh it up Fuzzball" to "I'd Rather Kiss a Wookie / I can arrange that."

Oh, and "It's not my fault" is used almost as many times as "I have a bad feeling about this."

The palpatine actor is VERY recognizable for his splendid mouth motion. The way the old emperor moves his mouth is just brilliant!
