Yes, it was a good movie. Bill Murray's acting was great. I loved the visualisation of cultural differences and similarities of.. eh, 'us' and the Japanese(us being all the people outside of Japan). The second half of the movie was a bit long-winded and dragging, though. I also hoped to see some references to Anime. Oh well, that surely isn't the only great thing that comes from Japan

I loved it. I found I related to Bill, although he's older and has kids. I related to what he saw in Scarlet, and found the film very believeable. I believed both of them. The story had a lot of realism as well. Loved it.
I related to both of them regarding Japan. I found similarities to my experiences in Singapore. The whole TV thing, including the "crazy" host, the Karaoke phenomena, the divergence in taste (Roger Moore) etc. Captured so much of the initial alienation, and subsequent attraction ("I wanna get healthy... eat less pasta, eat more sushi") The dawn/dusk shots created so much dreamy atmosphere. I've walked in the temples Scarlet wandered through. The same ones, in Tokyo. I RELATED. I haven't related to a film in such a way in a long time. As my marriage went bust, I was attracted to another woman as it collapsed... I understood Bills character. Scarlet of course is an mind numbingly beautiful woman who I could watch for days. She is a phenomenally attractive and appealing woman. MORE MORE! [ 03-13-2004, 06:24 AM: Message edited by: Yorick ] |

After seeing the movie, I agree with what Yorick said, especially this bit:

![]() Anyway, I thoroughly believed this flick. I especially liked that I got a sense that (SPOILER) - - - - - - Bill not taking advantage of her came from a seeming respect for the age difference as much as anything. He WAS unfaithful (with the red-head), I note, and though it was a lack of judgment/drunkedness, the same thing could have occured with S.J., but there was something extra that kept that from happening. Now, I have a question. Did anyone understand what he said to her at the end when he spoke into her ear? I took it to be something we were not supposed to understand, but if anyone caught it, please clue me in. |
