Anyone heard specific info on when the next book is coming out??

Oh, and Dragon Magazine #305 supposedly has a novella-length excerpt from the new book centered around House Greyjoy.
2. Attalus, here are some reviews, and they even mention how it takes a bit to get into it:
http://www.grandmatrix.com/amazon/books-0553573403-A
http://www.proudestmonkeys.com/books/gameofthrones.html

I love this from the second review:
Quote:
Unfortunately, I find that I am too often forced to judge fantasy novels by a lower standard than I judge other books. The truth is that there just are not that many good fantasy writers. But Martin's book is not just a great fantasy novel. It's a great novel period, and I recommend it to everyone... with a caveat. The violence - particularly violence against women and children - is graphic and very disturbing. A Game of Thrones is far from a kid's fairy tale. It harshly shows the ugly side of magic kingdoms, and, not surprisingly, it is not pretty.

Arrow

All right, I am getting into it and it is kinda interesting, in a sickening way. Please don't tell me that I shall grow to love Viserys, because I loathe that bastard.

I expect you do dislike him. We no-nonsense southern types don't tend to like namby-pamby whiners with a cruel bent. Fortunately, Viserys will get his crown - but not in the way you might expect. You will find it enjoyable, I am sure.

Not happening. Check out the website of the man himself George Martin .
We'll have to keep on waiting. I just hope it doesn't end up crap like Wheel of Time has become.

I just finished A Game of Thrones and I absolutely love it love it love it love it LOVE IT!!!

Not a lot of magic, but a hell of a lot of realism, and a lot of realpolitik. Reminds me of the stories of the Wars of the Roses in England. I'm onto the second one now and am completely addicted - I read up to 4:30 am last night, and am suffering at work today.

Attalus, I strongly recommend you continue. It's not for the squeamish, but by the same token it's not fiendish like Moorcock - it makes it all that more realistic. I give it
