A lot of the monsters are at their current level of power cause characters can now reach level 40! If you apply that to a table top role playing game, level 40 is near godlike, hell level 20 is the cap in most the games i am in cause level 20 is pretty damm powerful. I like the monsters current strength, it makes the lower levels a serious challange wich is what it should be.
Old Green-back, on level 8 in the stone tower, is easier than you think to defeat, any class can do it provided the right equipment is used correctly. I have found that a mage, even a level 20 mage can defeat Old Green-back pretty easily. The biggest challange with her is her spells. And getting a harm spell to actually work on her is like winning the lottery lol. As for characters using items only from EFU... that doesnt seem like a very good idea to me. If a script can be applied to cut any items that have a enchantment of +8 or higher, any unreasonable damage reduction ( Z's preference ) and to limit items to 1 type of damage bonus, I think EFU will be stable again. A script limiting item level to level 23 or less may be even easier than specific properties limitation. [ 02-27-2004, 11:17 AM: Message edited by: Teri-sha Illistyn ]

Again, all good points. What I meant about monster strength though was that their strength should be proportional to the level of the character that is being played on a specific level of EFU (I wouldn't be actually playing a 20th or 40th level char from level 1, perhaps a team of level 1 chars on level would go through, etc.)
As for old greenback... still always had a very tough time killing that dragon... I remember that Robertthebard and I did it once together but we won the lottery with that Harm spell. ![]() Level cap on items to either level 20 or 23 is fine with me... I'm just tired of seeing Long swords +20, damage everything +3000 and slay all onhit, etc. ![]() Anyways... time to shine my swords and don my armour... gotta go to work and fire some people today. ;-(

Server Vault!? Anything but that! I got characters at level 30 in the local vault that I wanna use in the Undermountain Server! The Crash Problems may be the huge amounts of placeables. People with pentium 3 processors who play it unintentionally crash the server. People with old video cards are no exception either. |

From all the crashes, I SAY go with the Server Vault. We don't need and never have needed all the umber PC's running through the game with their one wack weapons with 600 damage. I think at times they were the main cause for lag.
But you are going to need a quest option on each level for it to work or your going to have to reduce the hitpoints of everything from level 9 to 15 or nobody will ever see level 10 again for more than 10 or 15 seconds and they can forget ever making it to any levels farther down unless they are in a group of 15 or more.

BTW, THANKS to all that posted! I am now running that script that removes items, but I don't know if it's working.. I tried to compile it, but it's array based code, and its giving me a 'cannot something-something---no MAIN() function. (I'm guessing it can't find a 'void main();' header, but as they are arrays, they don't need one. Any ideas? I've turned ON Item level restrictions as well. someone go in with a cooked weapon or something and let me know if it's removing them, or not letting you use it. (post here on your results). Awesomly enough, the 10 or so times I've been in DMing in the last two days, I view the players inventory, and it all check out clean. many are using the stuff in Undermountain, and that is GREAT!! I Still gotta get the game balancing right from levels 7 through 10. It's still not perfect. My least favorite levels I've made are: Level 5 (a little) Level 6 - I REALLY don't like that level. BORING. I have plans to redo it. Level 7 was boring for a while, but I've added some stuff to it, and I'm in the works of changing a lot more in it too. Level 12 is almost done. It has a few 'break off' levels as well. If you liked that hard as hell green dragon, well, let's just say that the Cult of the Dragon is mad that someone killed Trist (green dragon), and they are seeking revenge. |

Z,
I took a level 36 character in with this weapon: Longsword +5, 2d12 damage in Acid, Cold, Electrical, Negative Energy, and Sonic, with Massive Crit 2d12 and Strength +5, That is a level 42 weapon and the server wouldnt let me join. Then I went back into the tool set and removed the strength bonus and dropped the enchantment to +4 and that made the weapon level 36. Since my character is level 36 the server let me use the longsword. On average i was doing around 130hp of damage tot he drow and spiders in the basement. I have these swords saved in my toolset for further testing, but that is it. A level 36 weapon is still waaaaaay too powerful in my opinion. It's 1:25 P.M.eastern and I keep trying to log on to the server but you must be working on it. I have a Level 36 Arcane Archer with all his legal equipment and with about 15 over powered Epic stuff to see what gets kicked off or wont let me in, but so far the server is been off line for about an hour since I started trying to test it I'll keep checking every 20 to 30 minutes. I try to get you some feed back later today if.
I have found out one thing and that is, with all legal equipment and going it as a lone PC. A level 36 player can just barely make it through lvl 11, so far I haven't survived to complete it and see level 12 with only +2 & +3 equipment.

Dont know if this will help...
While browsing some other internet games that allow local characters, i found 2 that have scripts running that check your inventory and remove items when you join. The first is Server: Relm of Possibility running Module: Relm of Possibility. The second Server: Siflige running Module: Siflige. Now i dont know the name of the scripts they are running, I can try to locate the DM and ask them i guess... but for an example script that could be modified for EFU i figured i would post them. Not looking to start any server bashing or advertisiment, just pointing them out as examples of 'on join scripts' nothing more.

yeah they strip you pretty much clean. I think what "Z" wants is just a limiter not a complete striper. I have been to more than 70 servers today with three different PC's and so far they do one of four things:
1) don't let you use your PC & require you to start with a new PC. 2) let you use your PC and remove everything from Inventory. 3) Let you use everything you bring but the site is stripped clean and hasn't been reset for days. 4) Let everybody in and they run in every direction fighting each other and stealing your equipment while your reserecting.
