Question? How are to hit rolls calculated in 3rd ed rules? Is it based off of experience or based off of level? Right now I has a 4/5 or 5/5 barbarian fighter. Would my to hit roles be better if he was say a single class fighter with equivalent experince? or are the "to hits" the same because it is based off of XPs instead of level?

It's defined by level. A class has a list of base attack bonuses which gets higher if they level up. Fighters for example have:
lvl 1 +1 lvl 2 +2 lvl 6 +6/+1 lvl 20 +20/+15/+10/+5 If you multiclass the numbers behind the level of each class get added together. I don't know how barbarian base attack improves so I can't say if it's negative for you but I do know another example. A lvl 2 wizard/rogue gets a +0 from wizard and a +0 from rogue so the base attack bonus is +0. Would it be a single class character however the character would get a +1 base attack bonus cause that's the bonus for a second level character. |

There's a list of Base Attack bonusses for all classes on page 157 of the manual. There are three catagories, roughly Fighting classes, Wizard classes and inbetween.
You look up the bonus for your first class (4 barbarian = +4) and your second class (5 figher = +5) and your third class (non-existant), and add those up (4 + 5 = 9). Looking down the table, you'll see that gives you a +9/+4 attack bonus, meaning 1 attack per round at a basic +9 and a second at a basic +4. A 2 sorcerer, 6 rogue, 3 ranger would have 1 + 4 + 3 = 8 for a +8/+3 base attack. |

Fighting Classes: Fighters, Paladins, Barbarians and Rangers.
"Inbetween" Classes: Clerics, Druids, Monks*,Rogues and Bards. Wizard Classes: Wizards and Sorcerers. *The Monk is a special case, he has the same Base Attack Bonus progression as Clerics etc., but gain a new attack every third Base Attack point instead of every fifth like other classes.
