What's your party? I like stalkers, but if you choose this, you'll need another tank who can wear armor.

Minsc and Jaheira can be your Tanks. I would recommend the Archer-kit for some long-ranged fun. If you want to be versatile, you can Grandmaster in both Shortbows and Longbows.

Powergaming-wise, Shortbows will be more powerful, but Longbows are cooler in my opinion.

Use Quarterstaffs if you need a melee option.

Cheers.

cupboard in the room between the dryads and the portal to the 2nd level - one of the ones on the left as you first go in

Hi everyone,

Guess who's back? lol

ok you want to be spared the "all classes are good" speech? No worries!

There are plenty of good NPC spell casters in the game, whether you choose to go good or evil (casters are also better for somebody who has done a run through before as well)

Don't go inquisitor because there is an NPC.

Here are my top 8 choices

1) Dwarf Bezerker: dual wield axes and later dual wield axes and hammers... my undebated strongest warrior in the game. Especially when you export from BG1. 19 str, 18 dex, 20 con (regeneration).

2) Human/Elf fighter (standard): switching between a two handed sword and longbow work wonders here, especially with an elf. You can also choose to dual wield. Human is also a good choice with longsword and shield too (if you choose sword and shield, don't put points into sword and shield style before maxing out long sword)

3) Inquisitor: Two-handed sword and longbow on quickswap is deadly with this. His powers allow you to decimate casters too. Only downside there is already an inquisitor NPC but going this class does allow room for another caster!

4) Kensai/Mage: this dualclass is ridiculasly cheesy but if you want to go a caster, import or start a human fighter, convert him to a Kensai and then dual class immediately. With the level cap you wont even miss out on a mage level!

5) Human Ranger (standard): This class doesn't have grand mastery but if you have finished this class in BG1 i would put this right up the list and import him as you have the tombs to boost your str, dex, con and wis! Go for two-handed swords and longbow, dual wield (katana, axes and/or longsword), or if you wish sword and shield.

6) Human Cavelier: This was the first class i ever passed the game with. Some nice immunities but you cannot use ranged weapons (not a problem if you give other tanks bows). Good combo is to make your PC a cavelier with longsword and shield and the NPC inquisitor two-handed swords and long bows... very nice!

7) Elf Archer: I probably wouldn't go this one on your first time through as it means you have to tank with your other party members, which at the end of the day is alwasy weaker (unless you're an all powerful caster). However, this kit does possess alot of use and annialates casters and minces up enemies before they can get close

8) Human Necromancer: If you really insist on going a caster (which are veeery powerful at high levels) go this one. It has the least restrictions (close to the illusionist) and most powerful spells are necromancy anyway. I've soloed this class through the whole series. Cons? You have several caster NPC's to do this for you...

Top Ten Classes of BG for a PC, solo or party:

1) Dwarf Bezerker (dual wield axe and hammer)
2) Human/Elf Fighter (swords and bow quick swap)
3) Monk (melee)
4) Half-Orc Barbarian (dual wield)
5) Inquisitor (two handed swords and bows)
6) Ranger (sword and bows or dual wield)
6) Kensai/Mage dual class(sword and shield or quarter staff)
7) Cavalier (sword and shield or sword and bow)
8) Elf Archer (um... bows i think?)
9) Necromancer (slings, staff and spells)
10)Multi-class Ranger/Cleric (cast both cleric and druid spells with good combat. Warhammer with shield or quickswap hammer/staff with bows

Other good classes:
* Priest of Telos (best special abilities of priests)
* Mage/Cleric multiclass (most spells in the game. A healer, buffer and offensive caster in one)
