Keep in mind that a sorcerer has the easiest time soloing the game.

And the Impaler is such a nice spear...too bad there are only two exceptional ones (I like Ixil's).

Oh, and another point. Between Pro-Undead scrolls, Daystar, MoD+2, Greater Healing Potions and Animate Dead as an Arcane spell, too, even a beginner can easily waltz through the game without a Cleric. The Cleric needs help.

Make the game battles a litter more enjoyable. Its all just hack and slash and blast away everything with a red cursor around him on the screen. It would be cool if there were spesifics spots on a monster that would need to be hit if you wanted to do any damage. For example you have to hit a dragon in his belly, or a beholder in the eye, and they would be invincible to all other spots on their body. You could have combos of bodyparts that would have to be hit in a different order to make the next bodypart vulnerable. Something that seperates the game from pure hack and slash and blast combat.

Purifier +4 makes for a lovely off hand weapon - 30% Magic Resistance is not to be sniffed at.

Foebane +5, now, that's a sword! Don't overlook the Minor Drain per hit effect - it's very powerful. Foebane +5 is one of the best weapons in the game.[/QB]
Yes, but those both are ToB weapons. There are no good bastard swords in SoA. Or then I just don't recall any. I admit I have *never* spent a single profient to bastard swords when playing BG2.

Jhor the Bleeder is decent. But you're right - Bastard Swords *are* a poor choice for SoA.

Back on topic... I just fought (Improved!) Big Red.
Make Dragons TOUGHER!!

It's called Dungeons & Dragons, not Dungeons & Demi Liches or Dungeons & Illithids... Sheesh!

IMHO the games are all in all pretty well made but ther are some things that I would change.

More NPC's on the whole. Not every one has to have its own quests but just a better selection. I have gone through the game a bunch of times and it always seems like I end up with basically the same party. There should be a Npc for almost every class, that way a person could play a way different game every time.
It just bugs me that there is not one halfling thief in the game.

And I actually liked the map clearing although once you do it you should be able to skip it some how b/c it can be awee bit time consuming and fustrating.

Mod makers have been doing a good job however at listening to the cries of gamers
everywhere. But why won't anybody make a good halfling thief NPC? Make him witty or dumb, there is always a fine line.

I know something that would make the game even better....

More classes to choose. Peeking at some D&D books and sites, you can see that there are many classes that would certainly improve the game...

A few examples...Spell-thief (a thief trained in stealing spells from the wizard´s mind), Gnome Artificer (creates his own adventure stuff through technology, much like Jan Jansen), Bonded (two fighters synchronizing their attacks), Rage Mage (a mage with berserk), ....

...and so many other classes you can imagine...

Strongholds - they sucked. I'm sorry, but in all honestly, they did - it was a refreshing idea - but... isn't a stronghold meant to be almost a *home* to your characer - a base of operations to plan stuff from? (so ok, maybe thats a little TOO far for an RPG but) - I hardly visited mine at all - and you couldn't *do* anything with it - Nalia's one sucked to be honest - I wanted to deploy troops and patrols - like a mini-stratergy game - as for those bandits - why could *your* party go and slay them? It made no sense...

Overall, BG1 has to be my favourite - cut off from Candlekeep - Garion murdered in front of you - out and alone in the big cold world, lost and nowhere to go - some crazy old man that kept throwing riddles at you - two of Garion's friends, you didn't know if you could trust or not - all the running up and down the sword coast - loved it. I also enjoyed Area exploring - BG2Soa, MAY be bigger, but it FELT smaller - because there was only ONE city - yeah, you had trademeet - but it wasnt the same as bg1 running up and down the coast - I think if they remade BG1 - and incorporated the bg2SOA & TOB maps and IWD - and the rest of them, NWNs included - made a forgotten realms game out of BG1 - it would be *so* much better - with a decent storyline - more realism, less ulberweapons, less exp for small quests, and growing to *reflect* your character - aslo - put a decent of music into the game - SOA's music was OK, but I prefered bg1s.

Also - BG1 had a subtle sense of humor that BG2 and the other games lacked... and, I want *horses* I wanna riiiiiiide and trample my enemies to the ground. More pets, more familars, more stuff - and also telling your party members to wait here coz you got go off on an important errand, and take so n so in their place - so stay and manage my stronghold for me - and depending on which npc it is - get more or less cash or whatever. lol, there are a thousand points how the game could be improved - and a lot of good suggestions already. But more character freedom I think - oh and clothing, definatly clothing - and to be able to PICK a sword or something due to its colour etc - or better yet - design weapons like in morrowind...

Hmm.. revamp the whole Reputation thing... like someone said, if no one so it... it never did occur. i believe this is the most ridiculous rule in AD&D.. just because you're evil you shouldn't have a low rep... in fact evil people would love to have a reputable state so that they can do their dark stuff right?

just my two cents

When you got an item in blue, you know that it is magical. I think that in pnp you don't know this instantly (except for very powerful items).
Every weapon should have a unique look and be unidentified. This would be more interesting (or aggravating, depends how you look at it). And more cursed items. Curses that don't show themselves in item description (ain't it wicked):

**Cool, a sword +3! Let me swing it... hey, why is my hand becoming stony?**
