To clarify, though, it "works" on pretty much anything short of Anath, meaning it can hit creatures that require +1 or better to hit, +2 or better to hit, +3 or better to hit, & +4 or better to hit.

*But*, it only gets +4 to THAC0 & +4 to damage vs. Giants & Giant-kin, which, depending on who you ask, is either Giants & Ettins -or- Giants & Ettins & Ogres & Trolls. It only gets +1 to THAC0 & damage vs. all other creatures.

I don't know the answer as far as what the game considers Giant-kin, but I do know that it can hit, for example, Fire Elementals (which require +2 or better to hit), even though it only gets +1 THAC0 & +1 damage while doing so.

Hmm, but whhy does it work against Iron and Adamantium Golems if it's only +1-2? Cause only +3 and above are supposed to hurt them.[/QUOTE]Because it's *always* considered +4 when determining what it can hit. However, it only receives the full +4 to THAC0 & damage when used against Giants & Giant-kin.

Think of it this way, under 2 different set of circumstances...

If fighting a Panther, the Hammer is considered +4 for determining what it can hit, gives a bonus of +1 to THAC0 & +1 to damage.

If fighting a Fire Giant, the Hammer is considered +4 for determining what it can hit, gives a bonus of +4 to THAC0 & +4 to damage.

The "is considered +4 for determining what it can hit" is always true, no matter what you're using it against.

So in other words, it's really a Warhammer +4...

Jerr, read this post. Then keep reading it, again and again, until you understand it.

A Warhammer +1 grants a -1 bonus to THAC0, a +1 bonus to damage, and can hit creatures that are vulnerable to Normal and +1 weapons.

A Warhammer +2 grants a -2 bonus to THAC0, a +2 bonus to damage, and can hit creatures that are vulnerable to Normal, +1, and +2 weapons.

A Warhammer +3 grants a -3 bonus to THAC0, a +3 bonus to damage, and can hit creatures that are vulnerable to Normal, +1, +2, and +3 weapons.

A Warhammer +4 grants a -4 bonus to THAC0, a +4 bonus to damage, and can hit creatures that are vulnerable to Normal, +1, +2, +4 and +4 weapons.

The Warhammer+1, +4 vs. Giantkin is NOT a Warhammer+1 or a Warhammer+4. It always strikes as a +4 weapon, but grants the THAC0 and Damage bonuses of a +1 weapon. The only time it behaves exactly like a regular Warhammer+4 is when you are fighting what the game treats as "Giantkin."

Yes, I'm in a bad mood.

So your basically saying, it can hit creatures only hit by weapons plus four.

But the bonuses are only +1 unless fighting Giantkin, in which case they are +4.

Simple. I, understand
