Of course, CHARNAME would probably be wearing the Robe of Vecna & might get off a Time Stop before Elminster does (plus, don't forget the Focus ability [Restored Bhaalspawn Powers] & immunity to Maze & Imprisonment [Ascension]). Either way, Raistlin's almost certainly immune to Time Stop. Not being able to scribe 9th level spells doesn't preclude HLA's, so he could be casting Improved Alacrity while the PC & El. are having a race to Time Stop.
He unleashes half his spellbook on the winner of the race (who has *ahem* apparently forgotten he's there), takes his time with the loser, then 34 rounds later (due to a mild coughing fit) casts Power Word: Blind on Aerie & gives her a Blue Crystal Staff, winning in 37 rounds & gaining a Good Cleric to help him with his schemes. Isn't it much more fun once we've accepted The Rules? - Imrahil |

I really don't agree with the Robe of Vecna being sold in the Adventurer's Mart. I really don't. I don't know how to respond to it being brought into this discussion, because although it's a valid item in the game, it doesn't make sense from a roleplaying or gaming perspective. You can buy an artifact like that, and a lich or Red Wizard or High Harper or Chosen of Mystra hasn't snapped it up already, yet in all of Amn you can't buy a damn Chime of Opening? I'm just looking for some consistency...
So! Elminster sets up spellfire to absorb EVERY SPELL CAST IN THE AREA AHHHHH and then traps the PC's soul in a tiny gem and then the party and then uses the souls to finally, finally create a Chime of Opening. The resulting blast from said chime opens every lock on the face of Toril except, inexplicably, the underwear drawer of Trelwyn, Head Dirtpicker of the Cale Isles. Why this was the case or why someone like that locks their underwear drawer will be a heated topic of debate for centuries to come. Edit- You're right! The Rules ARE fun! ADD] Oh, and why is everyone going on about mods? Mods are not part of the original game, and as there aren't any that I know of that beef up Elminster, it is entirely in the favor of the PC. [ 04-28-2004, 08:25 AM: Message edited by: Assassin ]

So... the PC gets to get help from his friends, but not Elminister? This is what we would call, an unfair advantage.
![]() If the match is fixed in such a manner that the PC gets all the benefits, and Elminister gets all the nerfs... is it even a match at all? It would be like tying a boxer to a chair, laying cheap shots on poor helpless him, and then claim you defeated him with your superority. Hogwash! |

Depend's when it's set.
Personaly I'd not favor after the end of ToB, but earlyer in the timeline.. Charname Vs baby rastlin & baby elminster.... well not much of a fight there.. OR take the battle even futher back and kill them before they are born.. it's still a fight between them, just not entirely fair.. There are plenty of way's for a PC to beat the unbeatable, just take a little thinking.

Charname will not even be a tadpole when Elminster is 60, let alone a baby... ...

We can instantly rule out any god's getting into the play though if set before the end of ToB, since they are not allowed to get involved in the whole bhaalspawn mess.. Now if we're just talking spell's and ablitys that where in the computer game then elminster's not all that hard, timestop, shapechange suck out brain, same goes for R... Now if we forget the computer game and go for all the power's that are open to all side's of the argument I'd say R and E would win, I mean these are two of the most overloaded char's around, all their spell's and ablitys... Though if the PC is able to call allies I'd put money on him since they are both magi so need to rest to regain spell's eventualy (or should do, but certain ablity's near negate that) So it's a matter of just sending wave after wave of NPC's to attack them, and die horibly.. that or cowkill scoll them both..

Gods aren't allowed into the Bhaalspawn mess, but this isn't part of the Bhaalspawn mess, is it? It's an independent battle.
Though if the PC could 'call' allies I see no reason why Elminster And Company couldn't, and then the PC is doomed. Though I still think Elminster could do it singlehandedly, but not in the game. He got the shaft in the game. Look him up if you ever get your hands on the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book.
