Yes, but this is an arena contest, and they are watching from the sidelines, as in a boxing match, only with more people, that kill each other, but get resurrected. So even IF they called them, they would be like "Sorry, that would be a spoil sport thing to do", and Raistlin would be like "Don't go there girlfriend", and they would be like *snap fingers*, * "Oh yes I did"

While we are at it, why don't we tie Elminster's and Raistlin's hands behind their back, force them to hop around on one foot and blindfold them.
Eh? |

May as well, since even Pippy the Wonder Hamster would win if he "summons the Simbul. The Simbul summons the other Seven Sisters. Laeral brings her husband Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun. Storm Silverhand brings Queen Amlauril of Evermeet".
Elminster sounds like a bit of a wimp when he has to fall back on "well, I have bigger friends than CHARNAME." The closest anyone's come to answering the original poster's question is when Illumina mentioned Spellfire & Butterfingers brought up Raistlin's powers. *Given the rules of the contest*, my money would probably be on Raistlin. Sure, Elminster's powerful, but he says he wouldn't take on the PC near the end of ToB. Raistlin, however, is as (maybe more) godlike as CHARNAME, but with all the other resources Butterfingers mentioned at his disposal ("10 extra spells per level and can control the flow of time, as well as warp spell effects on a whim "), I think he'd pull out the win in, oh let's say 37 rounds. Elminster would not be Elminster if he was never born. Or if he never found his calling and recieved his powers.
Much the same for the Bhaalspawn. If, by some weird chance, Raistlin found himself on Faerun, and knew of Bhaal's Plot, my guess is he would be going forward and backwards to see how various threads of time would work out, and choose the one most favourable to him. Either taking Bhaal's power for himself, like Irenicus, or, having a spineless jellyfish of a Bhaalspawn rise to power that he could manipulate. Also, as far as Raistlin is concerned, one must remember that the Queen of Darkness tortured him physically. When Raistlin reached that point of power of total spell manipulation, no spell, no magic of any sort would work against him. He would simply alter the nature of magic to harm the caster or turn it into healing energy for himself. He could, for example, take a magic missile fired at him, and, turn it into 5 healing spells. So that comes down to physical attacks, since all spells are useless. Remember the army Raistlin summoned up in Dragons of Spring Dawning with but a brief spoken word and a gesture? Or the fact that he can, at whim, summon dragons in unlimited numbers. Or summon Spirits of the Shokian Grove, whose Fear spell is so powerful that it effects both Kender and even the Gods of Krynn. Nothing, and I mean nothing is immune to the Shokian Grove Spirirts, who I might add, have a Slay ability that even effects immortals. Elminster this, and Elminster that, bah. Once again, both of them would know the consequences of their own power and simply would not endanger everything as we know it in a petty dispute. |

But they wouldn't be endangering everything, just "a HUGE field, no cover 5X5 miles" - read the rules, people...
This is one of those "Spider-Man vs. Superman" type questions - pointing out that they wouldn't fight is counter-productive to the real issue... who'd win if they did? - Imrahil |

I'm having trouble with the no-allies rule. Why does the PC get a party if Elminster can't even bring his lover?

'Cause Sir Degrader said so? If you'd like to stage a hypothetical battle between fictional characters under a different set of imaginary rules, you should start another thread.

Then Elminster wins because of spellfire. He can absorb magic attacks and convert them to spellfire, releasing them in destructive blasts or using the energy to heal himself.
Though it *does* depend on what class the PC is. We could assume that the combatants know what they're getting into. That means that Elminster could memorize Time Stop, cast it, then lower any defenses the PC might have and cast Imprisonment if all else fails.. Ah, the grid of doom.
