Game Factoid:

Dwarves get nada, zilch, zero, gosong ini benefits from using Axes.

A Human with Grandmastery in Axes, wields it just as well as a Dwarf with Grandmastery in Axes.

Ergo. There is no powerplay(aka Munchkinism) involved in using Dwarves to use Axes.

Elves and Long Swords on the other hand... ...

I'd think it's much better RP wise if you use the weapon that your char like's better..

"hey that dagger look's nice" -ulug

"Your a paladin, you should be using big swords not puny daggers" -Marekfi

and such... Getting into a RP vs power play fight come's down to how you RP and who your fighting with..

Just started a new game with a Wizard Slayer and have a question - do they hate Clerics and Druids or is it just Mages and their magic? Thanks.

No one said that they have to hate them, they're just good at kill all sorts of spell casters.

i don't like the so called powerplay
Halflings specialized in katanas? Katanas are about as tall as halflings. And one of the most powerful weapons in SoA is a katana. Powerplay. Riiight.

Dundee's right--a dwarven wizard slayer doesn't get any bonuses for using an axe. I just use them because nothin' says stereotypical like a dwarf and his axe.

I'm soloing a dwarven wizard slayer right now through SoA. I found a BG1 character from a game I tried about a year ago involving an insane CE elven mage and her LN dwarven guardian. (The game started with the mage, but I turned it multiplayer to add the dwarf because starting a truly evil party is HARD in BG1.) Xzar, Montaron, Shar-Teel, and Tiax also joined the party. My idea was that Gorion hired one of Reevor’s relatives to keep an eye on his ward. Gorion kicks the bucket and the dwarf feels honor-bound to stay with the elf, but grows increasingly irritated with the elf’s actions and choice of party members, and leaves the party in Baldur’s Gate. Yet somehow, he winds up in Chateau Irenicus. (I'm also a fan of alternate universe-type stories. What about all the other Bhaalspawn on Faerun besides ?)

I'm playing through SoA only. ToB adds a few "fixes" to wizard slayers that I just don't like. The mods I installed:
--SoA, patch, Baldurdash Fixpack and Game Text updater
--Ashes of Embers - universal weapons, added armor, wizard slayer enhancement: It doesn’t make sense to me either that AD&D 2nd edition restricts certain weapons from certain classes but not others. I also wanted nonmagical one-time-use throwing spears. Thought it was nifty to include scale mail, banded mail, and field plate in the game, so installed added armor. The real reason I installed AoE, however, was the WS enhancement. Instead of a 4% base MR and +3% MR per level, this component changes it to 8% base MR and +4% MR per level. Without this, I would never have attempted the solo.
--Ease-of-Use - true grandmastery, shut up “you must gather your party before venturing forth,” un-nerfed THAC0 and saving throws, and experience cap remover: I needed a few components, but most I could live without because they seemed like cheating shortcuts. To quote from the readme, “this game should not be a quest for inventory management,” and I feel that a large part of soloing is figuring out where to put everything. Also, is it realistic to have ~50 potions stacked? I guess I could’ve installed this for ease of selling, but what do I need with potions anyway? Most of my choices are obvious; I’ll probably uninstall the un-nerfing one when I return to regular BG2 play, as it wreaks havoc on spellcaster memorization.
--Revised Hell Trials: This will become important later.
--Oversight - corrected alignments, class/alignment tweaks, friendly animals, improved continuity: I love Forgotten Wars. They create fantastic mods that appeal to roleplayers. Kish’s Oversight mod is no exception. [/suckup]
--Item Upgrade: There’s one I want, and a few that would be nice to have. Unfortunately, there’s no way to install some upgrades and not others. Installing the SoA version.
--Tactics - Improved Twisted Rune, Improved Demon Knights, Improved Crypt King, Random City Encounters, Random Wilderness Encounters, Improved Undead, Improved Golems, Smarter Vampires, (Slightly) Smarter Mages and Liches, Improved Copper Coronet, Improved North Forest: Tactics adds a lot of battles that players must use and abuse cheese in order to win. I prefer the improvement parts to make naturally tough and scary enemies tough and scary again, and give enemies a chance to auto-buff too. (You know what’s going to be fun? Fighting the Runies for a stick. )

I also believe that roleplay isn't just weapon choices and deciding who to side with in Chapter 2. My WS obeys a strict set of moral codes. He doesn't steal, pickpocket, or loot. (He does take items from people he's killed, as all combat is naturally assumed as a winner-take-all duel.) He refuses to shop at disreputable merchants, so all the thieves and fences are out. He's also getting to Chapter 4 as fast as possible, and plans to exact a little vengeance in Chapter 5 before returning to the hunt in Chapter 6.

It's also my first solo attempt. I'm used to having a thief disarming traps, mages and clerics to buff and throw AoE spells, etc. More often than not, I'll pick my way through an area, survive several fights, then die after I stepped on a trap my magic resistance or saving throws didn't catch first.

Pirengle I like your style of play..I respect your "moral codes" but i also like Halfling WZ going for katanas no one says that a katana has to be as tall as the halfling.
