Oh, I love Jahiera to pieces. But I like Viconia, too. More often than not I have them both in my party, out of loyalty. So I won't have the Harpers investigate the Jahiera fanbase, because you're preaching to the choir.

And you're right, in 3E it's *much* more balanced. And let's not forget domain-feats, like turning outsiders and things like that. That would take care of gated creatures and maybe even planetars, depending on your level...

Both have Infinite Spells combinations.

As a result, the Cleric/Mage can output more spells per Project Image than the Sorcerer. If both had parties, the C/M's one would be buffed up to the gills while simultanously bombarding the opposition; but that is besides the point.

When I made the comment that mages would quickly pass up clerics, I was talking 2nd edition rules (since those are the rules that the BG series uses). In 3rd edition, they made a concentrated effort to "power up" the cleric, in an attempt to even out the classes. So yes, it would be a much closer fight in 3rd edition.

chain contingency can target improved invisible creatures.

Of course... a mage to answer the original question, with all items of course, just because of improved alacrity and timestop spells, not to mention the great summon planeater spell (sp?).

Now Now Now, as for sorcerors vs clerics or ... hehehe. Sorcerors of course. We can take this sorceror flexibility to a whole new level. First chain contigency 3 project images, set to self when helpless. Then cast project image, which makes you helpless. Now...we have FOUR free sorcerors running about, who still have the option to cast whatever spells takes their fancy and can change their tactics to suit the battle's style. Now, imagine timestop/improved alacrity/summon planeater x 6/7 for EACH image, then ADHW, then anything you want. With robe of vecna, all of the clerics spells will be taken away instantly as the casting time of lower resistance, breach, ruby ray of reversal, magic missile etc are all reduced to 0... He is scary. Of course you could just shapechange in timestop and kill the cleric in two rounds

Now mage/cleric vs sorceror is really close. You can get all the scary cleric stuff in timestop... hmmm really close but I think the sorceror would JUST come out on top due to the short time it takes to diversify tactics in the heat of battle by the sheer multitude of spells available to him/her. Damn... Actually I dont know. A close affair in any case.
