Default Eye of the Beholder

Picked it up from an abandonware site and have just tried to play it, but i have no instructions and can't figure out a few of the basic controls. Can anyone help me out?

I've not been able to find online instructions, just playguides and stuff.

For any such game, try the Replacement docs site:
http://www.replacementdocs.com/download.php

Choose the platform that you use. On page 41 of the PC download listings I found the manual, cluebook, install guide and map for EOB 1.

K, great game. I need some tips though. My cleric is unconscious and unable to do anything to heal herself or even wake up. How do i make an unconscious character conscious?

If anyone else can cast a healing spell, use that. Ditto a healing scroll. If the party contains a Paladin, use his/her Lay on Hands. Other than that you will just have to rest until the cleric regains positive hit points.

Thanks Stranger.

Right, lvl 10 now, and i'm stuck on a teleporter puzzle. It might be a stretch to expect people to remember the solution to this, but something tells me this is one of those puzzles that you don't soon forget. There is a long corridor with multiple teleporters barring the way, and an on/off switch in the blank space inbetween each teleporter. There are two runes before the puzzle, saying: "proper sequence" and "thirteen". There is a clue in the official cluebook hinting at binary. 13 in binary is 1101, but even though i've flipped the switches to match, i can't get through the teleporters. To further confound me, i checked the official solution to the problem, and that states a completely different solution, with no mention of binary, and that solution does not work either. Again, it might be a bit much to ask, but anyone got any ideas?

I don't know that "Binary" should be taken to mean the binary representation of 13, my reading is that it means you succeed or you don't.

I don't know which direction the party is meant to be coming from to solve this correctly.

The solution in points 3,4,5 of the cluebook may contain one or two subtle errors, or it might be correct. Here I mean page 33 of the PDF file, which occurred in pages 61,62 of the original hard copy booklet.

It has been 15 years since I last played this, I don't recall any great problem here in this corridor.

Edit: on certain occasions the cluebook in EOB 2 was wrong about the strategy that would work in a given area, whether it was due to a fault in my game or a last - minute change in the manual or game.

The Eye of the Beholder games (minus 3) were my favorite. Those and the Goldbox games.. EOB rocked. First IBM PC game I played in VGA.. (Had a commie before).

After you beat the Beholders, go grab Lands of Lore 1. It's IMO, the true 'EOB 3'... Since the same people made it as EOB1 and 2. (SSI made EOB3, and it SHOWS).

Actually i think the first EOB has seen me through. Travian s6 has finished and i found myself with enormous amounts of free time again (i really should get around to writing the summary for the travian forum..) and being away from my own computer and games, old DOS games were the answer. I'm soon getting Fallout 3, Vampire: Bloodlines and Planescape: Torment, however, so that will keep me busy for quite some time, methinks.

Edit: btw, the teleporter puzzle solution was actually the one stated in the play guide. I'd just fiddled with a few switches before i attempted it. Reloaded from an ealier save and the solution worked.
