Baldurs gate 2

for shear game play nothing has ever come close, it is simply the greatest group roleplay game ever. There are so many variations of the game you can try before you even look at the millions of mods and add ons

try it

WoW is the gaming equivalent of heroin. I was hooked after an hour playing on a friends computer. Hooked for 9 months. Got off it 9 months ago, and have been 10000% more productive.

ah it would be nice to at least experience being hooked because it does bring back good memories

I've played two MMOGs. Travian had me hooked where I got up in the middle of the night to check in and play. Took me a bit, but I ended up leaving it behind.

Started playing Heroes of War and Money, an online version of Heroes of Might & Magic, and quickly realized it was heading into the same place. Since you couldn't delete your account there, I had to get creative... changing my account email to one I don't use and changing the password to a randomly generated string that I never saw. There's no way to get back to that account... and that's a good thing

Addictive? Yeah. Heroin? Probably... except I think heroin is probably less addictive.

Yes I agree, WoW is addictive. But thats because as far as games go, it's just the best. Nothing can come close to it.

And who wants a game you can finish and then not replay? Not me.

But tbh, you do finish the game.

Clearing Naxx pre-tbc was finished, killing Illidan pre v2.3 was finished, and killing Kiljaeden before WotLK is finished.

Gearing up is just ultimate replay value, plus all the alts.

If you want a game, play the best. But yes, its addictive.

Honestly, if you've never had a look at the Baldur's Gate "Trilogy", then you've been missing out big time.

Icewind Dale in a nutshell is a far less story-oriented version of Baldur's Gate, with some minor differences.

Planescape Torment on the other hand is dialogue heaven. If you enjoy banter, reading up on lore and really just love a good story, then it's the game for you. Kinda struck me as the least combat oriented game of the Infinity family, so if that's your cup of tea, then maybe Planescape ain't ;p But definately worth a look, and it has some memorable characters to be sure.

The Fallouts are classics, of course. Great story, great characters, great dialogue, great combat...it's got it all fellas. Just not the swords and the magic.

The Witcher is a good bet(not a party game...they just don't make em anymore ) if you like your storylines to be directly effected by your actions. Pretty sweet graphics, a "mature" storyline thats been well thought out and an interesting combat system.

Neverwinter Nights might also work for you, though I found the main story to be kind of...tame. Expasions did better, but still nothing compared to BG and PS:T. NWN2 was also pretty sweet, though linear.

For non-Linear gaming, Elder Scrolls is the way to go. Morrowind is better than Oblivion in many ways, in my opinion, unless graphics are your thing. Then Oblivion is your best bet. But why settle for one? Play both and decide for yourself.

If you want to try something different, then maybe Jade Empire. Not exactly what you're asking for, but I found it an interesting kung-fu RPG that mixes hand-to-hand martial arts, swords and magic pretty well. Mix in an interesting story, and you got guaranteed Bioware entertainment(you can't really go wrong with Bioware...usually atleast average gaming entertainment that won't leave you regretting the choice).

Hope you'll find something to waste whats left of the summer on! Steer clear of real life though...it's a bore.

Yours,

Raistlin.

Could some nice person give me a quick low down on BG2?
I did try BG1 and max out my party before I got to the city, so sort of lost interest.
Did like NWN. Have remembered I do have SW:KotOR 2 to play.
I also have Guild Wars, but it makes my PC shut down

Wizardry 8 is way up there for me. M&M 6-8 are great for mindless fun. Disciples 2 is really good and I think 3 should be around soon.. goes and checks...

Yes, it's an old favourite of mine as well. I remember the first time that I conquered it on my ol' dx2-66 very fondly indeed back late '96 or so - it was just before I discovered the Ultima Underworld's with uni mates and fell in love with the potential of FP Rpgs.

It's a shame that Stonekeep 2 wasn't finished by Interplay - but if the rights to it are with Brian Fargo at InXile, who knows? Maybe we'll see Drake and Wahooka again in the future.

I wasn't even aware they intended a sequel. However, I remember reading the mini-novel that came with the game. After reading it I googled trying to find the author. The book ended on such a cliff-hanger and it was never explained in the actual game.
