So Alson, what's your next BG2 project?

Excellent job! Well done.

Now you've completed the game with no reloads with a powerful and versitile class, how about trying it with a single class? You pick...

Alson, BG1 is not a patch on BG2, but it's still very good, and will keep you busy for ages. I've just rolled a very good cleric/mage that I'm planning on taking right through BG1, ToTSC, SoA and ToB (with mods). Should be very powerful indeed by the end. I've worked out that he will have a natural WIS of 24 by the end of the game!

Have you tried the Icewind Dale series?

How about a Cleric?

The most obvious choice for a single class solo no-reloads game would be the Sorcerer... but that would be too boring, as you would either cheese your way through with Clones and hordes of Summons - or die. The Monk might be an interesting game... but the Smarter Mages' habit of casting Pro-Magical-Weapons every four rounds would make it either a veeery time consuming task, or just plain impossible.

It's not that I don't want to play BG1! Far from it! The problem is that BG1 is *extremely* rare here, and I'm not interested in a pirate-copy. On-line purchasing might be an option... I'll look into it once I'm over with BG2.

Another problem is that BG2 has a replay-power coming out the wazoo with all the mods and whatnot - the possibilities are virtually endless.

Oh, right, Cleric/Mage - no Hrothgar. With it, you could obtain 25, if I'm doing the calculations correctly.

No, but I'm certainly intending to after I'm done with BG2. IWD, and from what I've heard, IWD2 both sound lovely games. I've also heard good things about Torment (although it's a whole different game, excuse the pun).

Back on topic... I'm interested in hearing your opinion, and other people's opinion in general. If you are to design a party (4-6 members) for a no-reloads game... how would you do it?

probably fighter/mage(dual- or multiclassed), swashbuckler, ranger/cleric and paladin. some nice stuff you could do with them.

So you finally did it. Congrats!

Managed it myself a few days ago, though I believe my Fighter/Thief Garwinn saw the interior of Irenicus dungeon a few more times than anyone would consider healthy (Aerie was fortunately spared that part)

Setup was practically the same as yours, though without the Bag of Holding and Ease of Use.

Not gonna bore you with a resumé of my (at last!) successful attempt to go through the game with my Bonnie & Clyde look-alikes. So I'll just make a few points:

 • Never really used Imp Invisibility to counter Mages before, now I simply don't know why I didn't. The likes of Cowled Enforcers, Gaius and Yuan-Ti Mages actually used to be an annoyance, now they're a walk in the park.
 • The Hit and Run and Hide tactic with Thieves is simply unbeatable. Garwinn tackled Ilyich's entire party all at once a few dozen times, using nothing but an Oil of Speed, a high Stealth score, and the handy bookshelves that the library provides
 • Death Ward is the single most important spell in a Party NR game. The reason? It prevents all forms of permanent death. A person with Death Ward on him could take a 400 dmg backstab and still not have his picture removed.
 • Just watch out for Dispel Magic when relying on the above. Aerie got permanently fragged once when a Remove Magic was instantly followed by a Chain Lightning (you guessed it, Lich Spell Trigger), oh that hurt!
 • Man is Triple Implosion fun! Demogorgon ate a Chain Contingency contaning just that. It fudged him up it did! Though a few (4) Spike Traps were used to soften him up before that. The whole screen was still shaking when Demogorgon admitted defeat and returned to his plane.
 • It is possible to do this without immunity to damage. Neither Aerie nor Garwinn were particularly protected from either magics or steel. Our plan was more geared towards being cautious, hitting hard and fast, and never really directly exposing ourselves to any danger.
 • Aerie didn't survive till the end, she was killed in the final battle by Irenicus the Shattered One by a Shatter Magic followed by an ADHW, Garwinn avenged her though!
A few numbers, this is for the entire project, not just the final attempt:

 • Number of times Garwinn was left with less than 5 HP after an encounter: 19
 • Number of times Garwinn was left with exactly 1 HP after an encounter: 6 (Not kidding)
 • Number of restarts caused by Charm, Chromatic Orb, or other useless, completely harmless disabling spells of your choice: 7
 • Number of restarts caused by screwing up the plot: 3
 • Number of times Valygar saw his intestines fly through the air when he got hit by a boulder thrown by the Adamantine Golem in the golem head room in the Planar Sphere: 4
 • Number of times I had to listen to the lovely first 10 romance dialogs with Aerie: 17
 • Days passed when we went to Brynnlaw: 11
Greatest Mistakes
 • Sheepishly standing still next to Kangaxx, wondering what the hell that green ball he's working on could be, instead of running away in panic (tip, unavoidable death for me followed)
 • Assuming that 116 HP and 50% MDR would be enough to withstand 2x ADHW
 • Assuming the same thing five more times

I was starting to get frustrated (I'm weak , but then came Rataxes, my saviour, with his Imp Ilyich walkthrough. Worked like a charm.
It did? Nothing I write ever works

It seems that the trip to Brynlaw only takes 1 hour, yet gives you a free rest. Not important, but interesting, nevertheless
That same trip took me 8 days, weird isn't it

Party suggestion, don't leave home without someone capable of providing the entire party with Death Ward. Really don't

Single class suggestion, Swashbuckler, probably the most flexible single class character there is. The early game will be hell though

Ouch ! Those are some HEAVY numbers, Rataxes !

A question for Alson: you mentioned that you used XP remover (Ease of Use). Did you then use level 9 spells (Time stop, ...) which "normaly" a F/M/T would not get ?
