I could talk for hrs about this stuff.

Let me just list a few of my favourite authors:

Tolkien - ...

Robin Hobb - Farseer Trilogy and Liveship Traders

Salvatore - Only read his first trilogy so far, but I own the Demon one, Cleric Quintet and am collecting others including the Darkelf trilogy.

David Gemmell - Druss books

Ursula K. LeGuin - Earthsea trilogy

Michael Moorcock - I've read the Swords trilogy, the second Corum trilogy (The Oak and the Ram, The Bull and the Spear and The Sword and the Stallion), Count Brass series and Hawkmoon's books.

Sprague Le Camp and Robert E. Howard - Conan

Anne McCaffrey - Dragons of Pern and Sassinak + Death of Sleep

C.S. Lewis - Chronicles of Narnia

Raymond E. Feist - Serpentwar Saga and The Riftwar Saga + Prince of the Blood and King's Buccaneer. Collecting his newest series currently.

Guy Gavriel Kay - The Fionavar Tapestry

Finishing off The Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant right now. A trilogy following directly on from another trilogy named The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. Decent books, although this second trilogy isn't as good as the first IMO.

I suppose Jordan deserves a mention, but I tired of reading his book after Path of Daggers.

Man, this thread must suffer repetion a lot in these forums!

Yea, Terry Prachett!!! Right now I'm reading "Lords and Ladies"... I always knew elves were evil!

PS: And Tolkien, of course.

Jack Vance -- His books are the most shabby in my collection, I keep re-reading them. The Lyonesse trilogy is a masterwork.

Honourable mention for Tad Williams, the Otherland series.

I voted for Tolkein. For me LoTR has been the ultimate in fantasy. I would also add CJ Cherry's "Faded Sun" trilogy and Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books.

Hmm... I'd have to go with Feist, Tolkien, and L.E. Modesitt, I think. Or, hmm... Actually, I think replace Feist with Jack Vance for his Dying Earth books, maybe. Great thingy, was Dying Earth...

My vote goes to Cunningham. Who was the duo that wrote The Relic?

Elaine Cunningham would have to be one, Terry Brooks being another (I find his stuff to be an easier read than Tolkien's). Oh and who can forget the duo Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, eh? Together they're 'da shizz'.

Robert Asprin's Skeeve adventures for a light-hearted read and an overdose of puns.

And Steve Perry's series that starts with "The Man Who Never Missed" is a group that I reread frequently. More sci-fi than fantasy, but a lot of the same good things. "Death came for him in the form of..."

Salvatore and the original, the master Tolkien.

The other one, Brian Jacques. Yeah, shut up, you've gotta admit, there's something cool about hamsters and mice running around with spears and swords.
