De gustibus non disputandem est. (i.e.,there's no arguing about tastes. Oh, Lord, I hope I spelled that right or Melusine will be nitpicking me.

I refuse to vote too.

LOTR's Massive program is a huge leap - like the stuff Lucas did in the first 3 SW's. Gollum beats Yoda, but only barely plus he's more annoying - and Yoda's fighting style is f-ing awesome.

SW's plot is VERY good - and the new movies have a wonderful uber-plot going on that is not even given any credit. It's amazing: one man starts two wars over two decades against the very government he has been able to jockey control of whilst keeping the Jedi as his ignorant pawns.

Just compare/juxtapose the scene in Episode II where Palpatine speaks with Anakin ("I foresee you will be the greatest Jedi" / "trust your feelings") with the scene in Episode 6 where he has the same type of conversation with Luke. What I'm saying is that the political plot of the new movies is rather genius, and escapes most viewers.

All of this is an effort to justify why I still like SW even though LOTR is so obviously wonderfully adapted.

And, yes, there will never be quite another Empire Strikes Back - BUT, you cannot compare the new movies to the old. You may hate Jar-Jar, but Luke and Darth's rigid lightsaber fight in Bespin will NEVER compare to Darth Maul's fight or Yoda's.

I agree TL. I feel that Phantom Menance is much better then most people give it credit for for just these reasons. I loved the shock of seeing Yoda commanding what would become the Imperial Storm troopers in the final big battle.

I like em both (SW and LotR) but feel that LotR is clearly superior in every measure. Plus AFAIK LotR is the first fantasy movie to be nominated for a Best Picture and Best Director oscar.

Sorry, coudnt vote. Both of the films have good and bad sides. Star Wars is amazing series, except for 'phantom menace' the first ones were specially great LOTR as film is specially technically very good, and the actors are well chosen, but because the story is so long the film makers have had to make many things differently than in books.
Gonna watch them all no matter what, though.

Yeah, I saw that LOTR was nominated -- YIPPPEEEE!!!!!

I've noticed this evidence in the past year:
Super-popularity of comic book movies: Spider Man, X Men, etc.
Super-popularity of Sci-Fi and Fantasy movies: SW, LOTR, Matrix, Harry Potter
Plus, they are the biggest money makers - hands down.

And, I've even been in US Attorney offices where I've seen two attorneys competing with each other over who can have the most pariphanelia in their room: one was SW freak, the other was Spidey freak.

I've concluded that the insurrection is complete - GEEKS HAVE COME TO RULE SOCIETY!!!!!!! Again, YIPPPEEEEE!!!!!!

I used to like star wars but since someone pointed out that in star wars a button can have dual function. I started to like LoTR more.

i think lotr is better than star wars... star wars set the stage but lotr took advantage of the leaps of tech.

Right as can be Attalus.

Well, it´s a close one. I have to say the original Star Wars though. Some parts of The two Towers had me gagging (and no, not the fighting).
