Is a supplement book a third party book? Cause I have unearthed arcana which has some great stuff. I ask the dm if they think it's ok and I couldn't find any really overpowered stuff in it. So not every non-core book is that bad.

Third party means not published by WOTC. Unearted is published by WOTC, but isn't a core rule book. Thus, its a supplement, not a 3rd party (WOTC publishing). Think of it this way:
Third Party= Supplement, but a supplement does not HAVE to a 3rd party.

Truly, WOTC has recognized the love of powergaming, and has embraced it totally. Of course, everything is overpowered now, so you gotta be ready for that Orc mercenary who is a 10th level fighter/cleric.

I see well then it's as I suspected We don't use any of the overpowered books. Not that it's not possible to do it with 3rd or 3.5 edition. I'm a roleplayer and sometimes it's too funny. All the other guys maxed their characters and do loads of damage. And then they check my numbers cause I don't really mind them and I often miss small things and they get mad at me for having too low numbers

SHAMELESS PLUG FOR THE STAR WARS ROLEPLAY

Anyway, I really feel like 3rd ed is a powergamer's paradise...I don't really play it at all. I have a few 2nd ed characters, a few SW characters/campaigns, a few characters in the Palladium Megaverse, etc. All in all, I don't do all that much power gaming, but my PCs often want to become insanely powerful...at which point, I buy them off with something cool in one of my other settings

Third Edition is nice because it is flexible, too many rules restrict roleplaying.

But of course the same is true for powergaming. Just don't let your players do it.

I was tagged for death from the first time I played. I was a fighter/magic user (1/2)and really was supposed to die in the doppleganger trap. The DM's girlfriend was a lvl 5 rhinemaiden (fighter). Some how, she and I ended up the only two left alive in the trap...and the trap was dopple-gangers. Well, her strong dopple killed her strong self while my weak dopple was so weak, that somehow I killed my dopple.

I got the sword the DM had specialy DM crafted for her. I got all her expected level 5 equipment. I got the XP of (5) player characters, because the other 4 were dead when by killing the dopple, I completed the quest. I popped about 3 levels.

It Gets Worse/Better...

I roll for a familiar. They had (2) 10-sided dice. My first roll- zero.

One of the group says "hey, wouldn't it be funny if he got a psu..." It was all he could get out before Death Stare from DM's squeeze cut him down.

I roll the second time- Zero.

At this point, she begins to actually cry (wail to be acurate) and the DM is settling up with me on one hand and calming her down with the other. The session broke up for the night. The DM didn't get lovin' for 2 full weeks.

The very next session I played, I was back-stabbed by an Assasin and my corpse was ripped to shreds by the claws of a dragon "beyond the ability to raise". One of the party memebrs actually started to say "But what if we..." and the DM smiled a cruel smile and said "Don't go there."
Get a real DM...
Luvian, I wish it was that easy. (why does everyone think that there are dozens of campaigns to choose from at every point of the compass?) Truthfully, his gf was witch with a capital 'B' and she caused my good fortune to become my death sentance.

On a side note, is there a man here who, once in receipt of regular nookey, would look kindly upon the person who caused an artificial 2-week drought in their love-life, even by accident? (I'm lucky he didn't beat me with a bat...!)

I would, I have turned down sex because I was too tired after gaming, I have killed off Ruby's characters without hesitation (she is at least mature enough not to take it outside of the game, other than kidding and ribbing). Then again Ruby lived 50 miles away at that point so we were meeting for gaming most of the time, with personal time after the game, and the next few days.

You are right though, unless you live in a college town the gaming tends to be fairly slim pickings and it's worse if you are good friends with the DM or the other players and have a bad experience. That said, if the game was affecting his... love life, maybe he should have let someone else run the game for a bit, or switched to a board game for a few weeks to let everyone cool down.

Exactly why I don't play with GMs and their g/fs.
