You will definately loose out on some Major Exp. Pts., But all is not lost. I guess it all depends on how far you've progressed with the T'rang. Without going into major Spoilers, I'd say at a minimum you would loose more than 400,000 Exp.

If you showed the CM to Z'ant without getting the letter for the Umpani first, well, Lets just say you will loose out on a lot more Exp pts. On the bright side you can still complete the game.
