Still on my first time through the game. I'd like to get the Umpani and T'Rang to ally, but I have a couple questions/potential problems:

1- I've already allied the Mook to the Umpani. Is there any way to also finish the T'Rang-Mook alliance (maybe by showing them the Chaos Molari)? If not, does it matter which group I allied with the Mook?

2- I went into the Rapax area briefly, and the Templars are already hostile towards me. I heard that you needed their help to get the T'Rang and Umpani to ally. Can I still complete the quest?

Thanks. It's taking a while, but I'm slowly making progress (as long as I stay away from the Psi Sharks...)

re: Umapani/Mook-- not a problem. You'd do that as part of the normal process. Basicly, you need to do all the T'rang and Umpani missions EXCEPT the last ones, which involve crashing the Umpani ship for the T'rang or Screwing up the T'rang ship for the Mook.

re: Templars-- also not a problem. If you are on good terms with the templars [go to the Rapax castle and join them], they'll give you free access to the prisoners, who need to be brought to the Umpani commander in order to begin the alliance mission. However, once you free the prisoners, you'll have to fight your way back out, any way.

It is possible, though, to fight your way through the templars at the away camp and rescue these two without having first become a templar. Great exp. points, not all that tough if you have a couple of casters capable of death cloud, death wish, hex, element shield, etc. Best to kill ALL in the away camp except for the Queen and the prisoners.

The alliance gets you a nice amount of exp., something on the order of 1.2 million per party member-- definetly worth it.

For the Umpani-Trang Alliance you need to do the Umpani quests first then the Trang. The Trang only requires seeing the Chaos Molari where as the Umpani need an alliance. If you give the mook the Trang letter, I do not think you will be able to do the Alliance.

It can work either way. If you give the Mook the T'Rang letter and get the T'Rang alliance first, simply don't talk to Balbrak (he'll reject you and even attack you) and instead drop the quest item on him to get your Umpani-Mook letter. Be sure to buy off He'Li from Arnika because she will squeal on you for playing boht sides.

I tried to do quests for both sides, but got stuck when the T'rang accused me of working for the Umpani. At that point I had gotten the mook-umpani alliance and received the quest for the T'rang one. I had paid off He'li too. Does anyone know what else may cause this?

No problem, I thought. As long as I don't speak with Z'ant the T'rang stay friendly and I just miss a few quests. Then I stumbled into the Rapax camp and after an epic battle managed to free the two prisoners. I'm told to return the T'Rang to his base, but when I speak with Z'ant hoping to form an alliance between the T'Rang and Umpani he still accuses me of being a traitor and working for the Umpani. ??? They are supposed to be allied now, why care? This is what I'd call a bug. Is there any way around it at this point?

Ya didn't do the Ump mission where you screw with the trang teleporter, did you?

Other than that, can't think of anything that would cause this...

Bernel,

I have the same problem (at least, I get attacked if I speak to Z'Ant. Haven't rescued the men at Rapax Away Camp yet).

I'm thinking that I ported to the T'Rang teleporter with Glumph in my party to get him from Bayjin as quickly as possible, and that might cause the T'Rang to get hostile. I thought I was safe as long as no T'Rang spotted me, but...

Does anyone know if there's a way to repair the damage once you're hostile to the T'Rang, or is the alliance a lost cause now?

I seem to remember that even if you pay off Heli there is a chance that Zant figures out what is going on and attacks you. If you are playing with the patch, you cannot just reload a save and talk to Zant again because you will get the same result. I managed to load a save game go off and explore for a while then come back and Zant was happy. Hopefully you can do the same.

Haven't done any umpani missions beyond the mook alliance, haven't even been to Bayjin yet, but I'll try to wait a while and see if Z'ant forgets.

I'm not even sure if I'll be able to get rid of those useless Umpani and T'rang friends otherwise, they didn't like being dismissed. And I guess that means I'll miss the umpani quests too since I can't rescue their missing guy with a full party.

Your problem may be that you did the missions out of order. When I did the Trang-Umpani alliance quest I had done all but the last quests for each side before rescuing the two prisoners.

However, if you like the two guys you picked up then I would recommend not finishing the quest as they will leave you once the quest is complete.
