OK, this is something that has been puzzling me for a while (well, since last night ):
Does the MAZE spell kill you when its cast on the protagonist? I used to be 100% sure that this was the case, if it was ever cast on my character, hand of death appears and a reload is in order. However, last night for the first time the MAZE didn't kill my character. He dissapeared for several rounds, then returned. What the hell is going on??? Why did he live? Did he get new "anti-maze" Bhaalspawn powers? Was his mother half minotaur? Answers on a postcode to the usual address please.

The game will end if the player has zero characters available to control or if the PC is dead.
Domintion and Maze can in the right circumstance trigger the first condition. In a full party its rare but not unknown, for a soloist those spells are 100% pure evil. Question: Do summons prevent a game over for a mazed soloist? Makes sens that they would, but I dont use summons a whole lot so its enver happened to me. Question: Does anyone know if the same thing happens in Icewind Dale 2? I know it dosent have a Maze spell, but it does have domination and dire charm. (The reason I ask is simple: Icewind Gate 2. In fact, thinking about it, that mod will have to remove the game over on PC death condition as well. Excellent. (IWG2 is a mod for IWD2 which adds BG2 and ToB content. Effectively it lets you play Bg2 with the 3rd ed ruleset and spell lists. Way cool, but still in private beta AFAIK)

Ahh, that would be why I survived the MAZE then. Usually I am soloing when I get hit by these buggers, and it equals insta-death (I feel like such a plonker
![]() Dire charm/domination do not kill you. Just turn you red circle and make you safe from enemy attack until they wear out. No problem Question: Do summons prevent a game over for a mazed soloist? Makes sens that they would, but I dont use summons a whole lot so its enver happened to me. Answer: No. /me cries

As for Dire Charm/Domination protecting you from enemy attacks as they think you are one of them. I've found a few cases where i've been charmed but enemies have continued to attack me, my char doesn't fight back either which means i get my bottom thwacked! well unless i can cast domination on my own character, then things change teehee!

Yeah that thing about charm is annoying... if you charm anything and attack it, they will turn back to hostile... but if you get charmed and they keep attacking you, you wont regain control, youll simply stand watching how they rip you to shreds.

About the Charm/Domination thing...
A monster will keep attacking its target even if the target changes from Enemy to Friend. This will happen if a monster is attacking your party member who gets Dire Charmed (& thus the party member becomes a Friend of the monster) & if the monster is attacking a party member & the monster gets charmed (& thus the monster becomes a Friend of the party member). It's just a quirk where monsters keep attacking who they've been attacking & don't re-check to see "should I be attacking this person?". I'm pretty sure this doesn't apply if a monster is heading towards a character with the intentions of attacking but hasn't actually started an attack yet, although it does apply to monsters with missile attacks who've begun an attack on the party member. The very, very minor upside I've noticed is that if one of your characters is attacking a monster & the monster gets Charmed, continued attacks by that same character won't turn the monster hostile (a new character attacking will, though). - Imrahil |
