Personally id go for katanas, whenever i use valygar i always give him 2 of those & let him 'go to work'.
Strong magical katanas are rare, but after the underdark you can try to get the celestial fury which in my opinion is the best 1handed weapon (except crom fayer) in the game. being able to stun high level monsters with it can be a lifesaver in big battles. |

If you want to use longswords then the "Flame Tongue" that Evil Al mentioned is definitely a keeper. The reason why is that, if you look at its stats using Infinity Explorer, you'll find that it counts as a +4 weapon for purposes of determining what it can hit, no matter which particular bonus it is currently giving you for THACO and damage. This means that, not only can you use it to affect certain @!&#*$% demiliches, but it can also get through a mage's Improved Mantle spell.
