Default So importing an item database where some of the items have special abilities...

...causes the editor to blow up.

Well, actually freeze and require ending an unresponsive program.

I haven't tested whether importing a database with items that do something when Used does the same. But they all get plugged as Bless anyway...

Importing txt or dat?

I was importing dat item databases last night just to see what I had in each of my designs and I had no issues.

I've never had any editor freezing type issues importing any database, but you are right about the txt import. Items lose any script changes made to a special ability. Sometimes the items don't have any abilities listed, sometimes they do. Definitely in the realm of bugs.

It's from importing the .txt file that causes it to freeze.

I've never had it freeze from the txt version, but it always drops the special abilities except in some weird cases where it's pulling something from RAM, but if definitely always drops the scripts b/c they are not recorded anywhere in the text file. This last part isn't so much a bug as it is an incomplete feature.

You could try posting about this on the Yahoo list - I know that the programmers read that, while I think only Tarlanon looks here, and not very regularly.

Anyone tried to see if importing item DB keeps the events that items can have (from the examine button and/or use button)?

If you're importing from a .txt database, it will not import the events. I haven't tried with the .dat...

I haven't had any issues either....
Besides the text events, of course....

Would you mind attaching your .txt database here so I can make my copy of DC blow up?

I know that you suspected the special abilities were the problem, but now that is confirmed. By commenting out only the special abilities lines, the database imports fine.
